Advice on trying to conceive?

I've been on the pill since i was 18 yrs old, but about 18 months i had to come off the pill as my body was rejecting it, i told the doctor that me & my partner want to try for a baby who said it would take while for the pill to get out of my system.
but 18 mths later still no joy, has anyone been through what i'm going through at the moment & if so how long did it take for yourself to fall pregnant ?

Answers:
My wife conceived about 5 months after we started trying, but that is pretty fast for couples that are *trying* (as opposed to "Oops!"). The average couple takes about 12 months, so don't be too concerned that you are taking 18+ (it isn't statistically that far off "average").

If you haven't already, you should start educating yourself about conception. You should be tracking your ovulation. There are several different ways, and it makes sense to use more than one for best accuracy. There are the urine sticks (similar to, but not the same as, the "ept" pregnancy sticks), vaginal mucus checks, oral saliva tests, basal temperature tests, and probably others. My wife used all four of those (but being a Labor & Delivery nurse, she's hardly average!).

Once you can say with confidence when *exactly* you are ovulating, then you can determine when you should be having intercourse to have the best chance. Warn your partner: you should go at it like rabbits for the 2 +/- days when you can conceive. Also, if your partner wears briefs and snug pants, he needs to change to boxers and looser pants until you conceive. The testicles produce less sperm (and less vigorous sperm) if they are kept too warm. Nature intended for them to be a few degrees cooler than the body (like low 90's); keeping them pressed snugly against the groin makes them too warm.

Finally, if you do all this (or have been) and still don't conceive, talk to your ob/gyn. They can perform fertility tests (or refer you to a fertility expert) to determine if you or your partner has a malfunction.

Good luck!

Try to have more sex, nature will take its course, eventlually. Some times it takes up to a year, dont worrie just keep on doing the baby dance and it will happen
I would suggest having sex less often so that your hubbies load will contain more semen and more sperm by volume. Aswell he should be keeping his testes dry and cool, those conditions allow for the greatest sperm production. Because the scrotom needs to maintain a temperature about 2 to 4 degrees cooler than the normal body temp of 98.6 degrees. You could also buy ovulation tests which are alot like pregnancy test but measure your ovulation rather than your gestation. Good luck, hope you get your little one soon!
are you having regular periods? I was told the same crap from a doctor when I came off the pill and didn't have a period for 5 months, that it takes a while to come out of your system. I later found out I have PCOS, which was why I was having irregular periods. Take a look at www.fertilityfriend.com for advice. My advice though, if you are not having regular periods, is to seek a second opinion and ask to be tested for PCOS. Then something can be done.
I got preg 2 months after i got off of it and at 2 months i had a miscarriage. Don't rush it. I hope you have luck.
To get pregnant you must have sex on a day that your eggs are being released.

After the 3rd day from the day that menses started put a thermometer into your mouth and check your body temperature every morning before you start turning in bed. The best time is at about 4 a.m. Maintain a chart. You will find that on one day the body temperature drops from 1/2 degree to one degree. This is the day that your eggs are being released. If you want to get pregnant this is the day that you must have sex.

After having sex you must stay in bed for about 30 mins with your knees bent up so that the sperms will not pour out - to enable them to travel up.

Get your husband to save his sperms in the testacles for at least 5 days before sex to enable them to mature well to do their job.
