Metro gel (metronidazole) for rosacea and trying to conceive?


I take Metro gel for the face since I have rosacea. I am trying to conceive. Has anyone tried to conceive while using the gel? Could it prevent conception? I am just curious. I want to make sure.

it dosn't prevent conception but cant be taken during the first trimester of pregnancy because it can harm the baby

Risk Category B


* Controlled studies done on animals in reproduction do not indicate risk to the fetus.
* No adequate and well-controlled studies done on pregnant women.


Indication
* Anti-infective,
and amebicide.

Fetal Risk
* Crosses human placenta.
* In animals mutagenic and carcinogenic.
* To date no association with human cancer.
* Use in 1st trimester is controversial, possible association with congenital defects (Mental retardation, dislocated hip, hydrocele, cleft lip and palate, holotelencephaly, optic atrophy, hand defects, metatarsus varus).
* Contraindicated in 1st trimester, acceptable in 2nd and 3rd trimesters if alternatives failed.

Breast Feeding
* Excreted into milk.
* Possible cause of diarrhea and secondary lactose intolerance in exposed infants.
* Should be used with caution because of potential mutagenic and carcinogenic effects.
* With single dose (2 grams) lactation can be allowed after 12-24 hours.
