Is it possible to feel the mucus plug when you are pregnant? If so when and what does it feel like?

I have not gotten my period yet and plan on taking a pregnancy test in a few days, but I was wondering if it is possible to feel the mucus plug at all and if so before you even miss a period? Also, about how many days before your period is due can I expect to feel my cervix open up if I have not conceived? My period is about 4 days away and is still tightly closed. Any input would be appreciated!!

Answers:
Your cervix will open and become soft like the inside of your cheek when you are ovulating. This is the only time that you can become pregnant each month. At all other times, your cervix will be hard like the tip of your nose. Most women with a 28 day cycle ovulate on around day 14 of their cycle, although this can vary for some women. I ovulated and became pregnant on day 8 of my cycle.

You will not be able to feel your mucus plug, until you actually lose it just before you go into labour. When you are ovulating however, you will probably notice an increase in cervical mucus. This draws the sperm inside. Once you have finished ovulating, if you become pregnant, the cervical mucus will dry up and form a mucus plug.
