how long does break through bleeding last?

i have been ttc for 1.5 years and no luck last month i had a bit of spotting then nothing for 2 weeks so i had thoguht i was pregnant i took 3 tests one week appart and they were all negative now its been about 3 weeks and i have been spotting about every other day no period though what could this be? also i have irregular periods but this has never happend before .

Answers:
I was on birth control several times and My break thru bleeding usually stopped a few weeks after the hormone left my body.
I also had the depo shot and I had break thru bleeding for 6 months.Break thru bleeding is different for everyone.The docs told me it was just a side effect of the hormones and it will go away.But to be honest with you.... the bleeding never stopped for me until I was off the hormones.I dont know if birth control is the same thing as ttc but their hormones none the less.
