Which type of robitussin is the best to take when trying to conceive?

i have been hearing alot about how robiussin is good to take when you are trying to conceive but which one are you suppose to take, i keep getting different answers!!!

Answers:
This is not an urban legend, or anything of that sort. In fact, my doctor himself told me about it. Make sure you get the Robitussin without any letters behind it and follow the directions on the back. Make sure you do not get the DM as someone suggested above; it is known to cause birth defects. The Robitussin helps by thinning all the mucus in your body, including your cervical mucus. When your cervical mucus is thin and stretchy, it makes a much better for sperm to live :) They can travel faster that way as well. A friend of mine started taking Robitussin and conceived the first month. I just started taking it this month and am crossing my fingers!!

I've never heard of this. I wouldn't take any kind of meds unless prescribed by your physician. Only take what you need for a cold.

????? This has got to be a very dangerous urban legend. Who every told you or where ever you found this info is not the brightest crayon in the box. idk if it really works. and i have no clue as to whih 1! just stick to the reg way; wait till ur married, do it w/ purpose, and wait and c. i wouldnt take n e meds just yet!

I'm sorry, I've never heard of that at all. It must be one of those newly made up home remedies people are always trying come up with, which is probably why you keep getting different answers. I certainly wouldn't try any of them without consulting a GYN. They are all strong medications, which can do harm to the fetus if taken when pregnant. I can't imagine any of them actually helping you become pregnant.

I have heard of this!
I don't know if it works or not...but the reason it is an old wives tale I guess is what ya'd call it...is because Decongestants loosen mucus in your nose so they say it might loosen all of your different mucus in your body. I would get the extra strength decongestant...I don't know which one that is...but get that one and see if it works. Ya never know. because I know that some women don't produce enough lubrication during sex which is something that helps in the sperm getting to the egg. Also do not use any lubes...like KY or anything like that...unless I think its water based if you have to. I hope this helps you! Good Luck!

my own personal research Brookie is correct. This is not an urban legend, or an old wives tale. Doctors will tell you to take this. The guifenesin in Robitussen helps to thin out the cervical mucus, this creating a more habitable environment for the sperm to live in. You want the Robitussen with no letters behind it.

You can also drink green tea (like SoBe or Arizona...or hot green tea if you prefer) and get the same result. This is what I do because I hate the taste of cough medicine! Robitussin is *only* going to be helpful if you have a very specific problem that is preventing you from conceiving--no wet cervical fluid. If this *is* your problem, it *may* help you to take guafenesin, which is an expectorant that is an ingredient in some cold medications. However, if you are infertile for other reasons (or if you are fertile and just haven't yet tried long enough to conceive), this will *not* help you.

You do *not* want to take an antihistamine. Its purpose is to *dry* up bodily secretions--the exact opposite of what you would need. And a medication with both these ingredients would be fighting with itself as to which one should work!!
