How long does it take after coming off Depo to concieve on average?
Answers:
Ive never taken the shot personally, but my sister and many friends have. they all had bad experiences with it (constant bleeding, pain, multiple miscarriages after being off)... and therefore most quit after the first shot alone.
But i do remember at the time they went, the doctor said that you should not even take the shot unless you are ok with waiting *atleast* 1 year after stopping the shots to have a baby. I remember her telling my sister she'd be infertile for atleast a year afterwards just from the 1 shot. That if she continued the shot- every shot would cause her to be infertile even longer. I have heard everything from its different for everybody- to every shot you take = 1 year of having to be infertile. My sister had 1 shot i think it was the 6 month shot- if thats even offered, it was the shot that was the lightest dose... i just know it wasnt the once a year shot they do offer. Anyways she never went back after the one shot. she had horrible side effects. she continued unprotected sex with her boyfriend for over 4 years without becoming pregnant. then she had 2 miscarriages. Now she has a 9 month old healthy son, but her pregnancy was complicated- probably related to the 2 past miscarriages caused by depo screwing her up.
I had a friend who took it as well, she had a perfect baby but it took her over 5 years to get pregnant.
this may not be true for everybody tho!
ALSO- if you are really trying to concieve talk to your ob/gyn. it may be the horomones that are off balance after stopping that make you remain infertile. i know they have horomone therapy and their might be ways to speed up the process of fertility. otherwise your body has a lot of re adjusting to do and maybe vitamins and supplements will help.
I think it varies per person. But I think depo is EVIL! I did two shots and it has messed up my life and it's been almost three years since my last shot. We've been trying to conceive since 11-03, and not accomplished it. It took me 4 months to have a period, and I have just recently gotten regular with my periods.
Good luck, hope you don't have to wait like I have.
BTW, I also read that they use depo in the use of chemical castration of male sex offenders in some states. Depo can't be good for anyone if you ask me.
