Does weight have a significant impact on conception?

Both my hubby and I are over weight. I have read often that weight can cause trouble in conceiving. What is your experieince? When I say we are over weight, I mean me by 50 lb and hubby by much more. I am 35 and he is 44.

Constructive answers, please!

I'm not sure how it affects men, but I know that it can make it hard for a woman to get pregnant. It took me 2 years to get pregnant with our 2nd child. Bear in mind, I was still carrying around the extra 80 lbs that I put on during the 1st pregnancy. I went to the dr. and after some tests, she said I had poly cystic ovarian syndrome which was causing me not to ovulate. She said that the poly cystic ovary thing can often be caused by being overweight and she suggested I try losing at least 10-20 lbs. I exercised and changed my diet and in 3 months I lost 35 lbs. Then the next month, I got pregnant, so I think the weight was definitely impacting my chances in getting pregnant. Good luck to you!
Yes I have heard that it does, why not try losing some weight for both of you, you will probably feel healthier and more attractive wich leads to more sex, also it is better to be at a healthy weight before pregnancy. I was about 30 pounds over weight and was having a lot of problems with my period hormonely. My doc told me to drop the pounds to help and it did. I would assume it would be the same for pregnancy. Good luck.
