when do i get a period on metaformin (pcos)?
Answers:
I have PCOS and have taken Met to get pg with 2 of my 4 girls. One thing to remember is that the Met alone will not make you regular. It is to help maintain healthy insulin levels, but if all you eat is sugar, bad carbs, and little to no fiber everyday it won’t do great things for you. The only thing you will notice is a major case of diarrhea. I found to get pregnant I had to eat a really well balanced diet with little to no sugar (that doesn't mean you can't have bread, fruit or veggies). If you have weight to loose, it will aid in that too. With weight loss it will help your insulin and hormone levels which help you regulate (and ovulate). I was able to get to a 35 day cycle with the Met, diet, and Clomid. Usually they will put you on Met only and watch to see the changes. My advice is to really do a good Glycemic Index or Lower Carb/Sugar diet with the Met, and you should really notice a difference with just the Met alone. After that if they find you still need help to Ovulate, most likely your doc will put you on Clomid. I spent 5 months wasting time (in addition to the 9 of doing nothing) by not changing my diet in addition to the Met and Clomid. But when I did finally decide to do it, I got pregnant that first cycle. With the diet there is a book called "New Glucose Revolution Guide to Living Well with PCOS", I think it would be worth the read. Just think in addition to getting pregnant this diet can help you either maintain or loose weight. Another bonus is that you can continue this way of eating through your pregnancy, and after to help get back to your pre pregnancy weight. Eating this way you will most likely get to the point that you won’t need the Metformin. Here is a link below to look at the book. Good Luck and I hope it proves successful.

It may take a few months. I also have PCOS. You may or may not be regular on the metformin. For those with PCOS your cycles may not ever be "regular" meaning 25-32 days. They probably will be more like 28-40 days. Maybe even longer. But for me it sure beats cycles like I have now with 100+ days. Good luck! We are also trying to get pregnant. 4 years so far but just started met.
My periods became completely regular on Metformin. And I got pregnant after 14 years of infertility. Good luck. Stress/worrying about getting pregnant, etc. will interfere with your ability to do so and will also make your periods irregular.
