how long does it take usually to adopt a child from the states my daughter has been waiting six years ?

Answers:
My wife and I adopted domestically (US). Our agency told us that a one- to two-year wait is common.

The birth mother chooses the adoptive parents. Unfortunately, some prospective parents wait years and some do not get chosen at all. The wait is commonly longer for a healthy Caucasian newborn.

A few possibilities to speed thing up, I realize these are not attractive alternatives for everyone:
1) Start over with a new agency, for one reason or another this one might not be doing the job.
2) International adoption.
3) Adopt an older or minority or mixed-race or special needs child.

Good luck whatever your daughter decides!
I know people who have been waiting alot longer than that. It usually depends on whether the birth mother chooses you or not. I know if you want an older child, it is a much shorter wait.
