Drinking too much water will produce more urine, and the concentration of Hcg in the urine will be less, possible too weak to show a positive on a pregnancy test. Pregnancy tests will show a better chance of showing a positive with the first urine of the day, when the Hcg has had a chance to build up in the urine overnight, that is why pregnancy test instructions state to test first thing after waking up in the morning.
