Has anyone been on warfarin and got pregnant??

I have inherited a blood birth defect that makes me prone to blood clots, I must be on warfarin for the rest of my life. What's your experience, have you been on warfarin during pregnancy or whiie you got pregnant and have healthy child/damaged child? I am trying to get pregnant but doctors don't recommend it as warfarin croses the placenta and can cause problem to the baby. I am going to be put on heparin before I get pregnant and also clomid...Is this the only option for me? Tell me what is your experience/story. Thank you..

Answers:
On a more sympathetic note, nobody can stop your yearn for a child of your own; Medicine is advanced enough to accommodate this. Nothing is without risk though, you shouldn't worry too much about switching to heparin pre-conceptually. It is just like a diabetic on tablets switching on to insulin as this is more conducive to the development of the foetus. This unfortunately is the only option for you. You will be monitored closely with regular blood tests and scans.
All the best

I am male and have Lydien Factor V, so I am in the same boat as you with warfarin. You need to talk to your primary care docotr and ob/gyn to let them know your trying to conceive. You may go off the warfarin but then have to have blood work doen more often and change your diet and exercise patterns. It is a serious consideration, but with proper medical care you should be able to have success.

You will likely need to be on heparin and may be hospitalized prior to delivery. I would definitely get a second opinion from a doctor and an ob/gyn. ppqna.com doesn't count as a second opinion on something this important! You know what-- this is really crap and im so sorry to upset you here but if you are on heart control pills-- why would u want to take the risk in getting pregnant and passing on the same defect to your child? If it were me -- and im clearly not you-- i would think clearly before getting pregnant, as the possibilty of you passing the defect onto your child is high
