is my daughter gifted?

my daughter just turned 2 in november. by this time, she was counting to 10 in spanish and english. (from watching dora the explorer) i sometimes can't get her to stop talking. (not that i want her to).....she knows words in spanish and she knows at least 20 different signs for sign language.....she is smarter than any other 2 year old i know. is she smart or am i just partial?

Answers:
By age 2 1/2, the average child has a vocabulary of about 600 words, by age 5 or 6 that number rises to about 15,000 words, an increase of 10 words a day. By 3 years of age, most children have all the basic tools needed to form sentences and make conversation. Most 18 to 20 month olds will use 1 and 2 word sentences. By 24 months, the longest sentences include 4 and 5 words. By 30 months, sentence length will double again. Keep up the good work, she sounds smart.

hard to tell at this point. She may just be a early bloomer. Testing would be needed to evaluate her fully

Yes she sounds very smart to me, some kids can't even talk at 2! Sounds like she is somewhere between gifted and very gifted.

You may want to have her evaluated before she gets too much older (gifted programs and a good thing and you usually need test results to qualify).

I'd say she's pretty smart, but not Einstein. My daughter is nearly identical, but I wouldn't want an Einstein. Of the people I know that are off the spectrum in intelligence, they all have a hard time concentrating on one thing for very long. They also have a hard time choosing a career because they are gifted in so many ways. Enjoy your daughter and treat her the way you think she needs to be treated, not what other people tell you or what you read in a book. Good luck and God bless!! It's probably a combination of both nurture and nature. If you spend a lot of time teaching her she's going to be apt to learn quicker and at an earlier age. But without the ability to process it cognitively she wouldn't learn it from you.

She's probably on the road to being gifted and as long as you keep providing the oportunity she sounds like she'll soak it all up.

Don't worry about having her tested just yet, there's nothing they will do until age 5 anyway. Even at that age her testing will be skewed since her fine dexterity will be lacking. (Fine dexterity doesn't kick in until 1st/2nd grade.)

Good luck!

Girls are just faster at speaking, and what they watch, they can say well. My girl knew all her colors, even grey and brown and black before she turned two and could recite endless nursery rhymes. Apparantly, it is what girls do best, because my boys sure did not. She is smart, yes, but just enjoy her. As for talking all the time - help! they do that too. Talk back to her. Teach her rhymes and fun things to say. Count past ten. While they are excited to learn is a good time to have fun teaching them things. All these rhymes, songs, and fun things will help her develop her memory which will be useful later on when she has to learn spelling and geography!
It is difficult to compare smartness at this age. Often it has very little to do with actual smartness, but just pace of development and shyness of others plays a part, too, in what you see in other kids. some kids may develop a bit later on, but actually be just as smart or smarter. What you can tell is that she is not lacking in mental capacity, at least not in verbal skills. And that is good, but too early to even wonder yet. It is nice, though, to be able to tell the grandparents. Have fun.

She's a very smart little girl I would be proud of her because there is alot of kids that can't even to half of that just keep working with her and she'll go along way with it
