my 18 mon. old daughter is only 31 inches tall, dr isn't worried but I am.My gut tells me something is wrong.

Just concerned with her height. She just seems to be sooo short. Her weight is good (24.6 lbs). I always ask dr. if I should worry and they say no. She has even had blood test done on her thyroid and other things for short stature and every thing was normal. Why can't I let this go? I'm almost obsessed with this! Can anyone please help me?

Answers:
I'm not sure why you are worried (other than you are a mom and its your job!)

Look at this growth chart:
http://www.cdc.gov/nchs/data/nhanes/growthcharts/set1clinical/cj41c018.pdf

It's the same one we use in the office to track heights and weights (you can print it out if you want).

For an 18 month old your baby's height and weight are perfectly normal. They are just about at the 50th percentile for both height and weight. Anything between the top and bottom lines on the curves are normal, and she is perfectly proportional.

Ask the doctor to show you her growth chart when you go in for checkups and things. Most pediatricians are happy to show you. I hope this helped.

If the dr says there is nothing wrong then he's probally right..mabye give her more milk.

Try contacting another doctor, if then it all shows normal all is fine nothing to worry about, must be coz she is still too young it will show soon enough when she grows up. If still concerned must be a height thing consult a doctor not ur family but some random dude and find out about malnutrition and anything that toddler's need when growin up. I think she'll be just fine. My son just turned 6 years old. He's about 44 inches. He was just about average height in comparison to all the other students in his class. He went through a period where I thought he'd never grow, but then he had periods where he sprouted several inches at a time. Every child is different, but I think your daughter will turn out perfect.

Check out this site to chart her ht and wt. to see if they are average or below average.

My son (granted, boys are bigger) was usually the same height and weight. At 18 months he was 36 inches and 36 pounds. I think 31 inches at 18 months is great. Plus, there's a rule of thumb that says that your child as an adult will be roughly twice the size they are on their second birthday. Since your daughter is approaching three feet...she'd be 5'4" if she exactly doubled her height. Since 5'5" is "average" for an American woman...I think she's good. Plus she'll grow in the next six months, so I think you really should try not to worry. :) SHE IS JUST GONNA BE SHORT... MY DAUGHTER IS 9 YEARS OLD,AND IS VERY LITTLE,SHE ONLY WEARS A 5T IN CLOTHES..SHE IS VERY SMART,SHE IS GOING INTO 3RD GRADE,BUT IN THE MIDDLE OF THE YEAR THEY WANTED TO MOVE HER UP TO 3RD..SHE IS VERY SMART...SIZE DOES NOT MATTER...

Well, I don't know rather this helps, but I looked in my baby book and I was 33.25 inches and 26 pounds at 2 years of age, which is in the 31st percentile for women's height. Now, I am 5 feet 6.5 inches and I was known for being tall for my age since I was about 6. In addition, lots of the girls that I used to be taller than suddenly passed me in our teenage years.

By the time I was 11, I was 5 feet 5 inches and 145 pounds, not fat but just big. My of my friends were dwarfed by me. But suddenly, they grew. One of them whom I had been a full foot taller than for years, is now 5 foot 11! Now, I'm only 5'6.5 inches and 125 pounds and I feel like a little person next to her.

My son is 11 months old and is only 27.5 inches long, which is like in the 15th percentile. But his father was very short until he turned 18, and now he is 6 foot 1.

As long as your daughter doesn't have any medical problems, she is probably just growing at her own rate. I know it doesn't stop the worrying though. I can't help but think that my son is going to be short, even with mine and my husband's growth patterns. Even if he is though, we will love him the same, and so will whoever he finds to marry and befriend!

Kids grow at differant rates. Some kids are petite and some are tall. I don't think she is too small for that age. After all, she's just a toddler. Being obsessed wont change her height. I see nothing wrong with your child's height and weight. Did your doctor tell you what percentile your child's height is? The percentile will tell you how your child's height compare to others of the same age.

My son is 15 months and is about 31 inches tall, and weights 26 lbs. At this age, his height and weight is about 60-70th percentile (meaning his taller, heavier than 60-70 percent of babies his age). But he is slowing down though. I doubt he'll grow any taller in 3 months.

Your child is not short at this time. If you or your husband is short, then maybe your daughter will be short, but there really is no way of telling this now. I am 5'5", my husband is 5'12". My son was born 22 inches long. So, really.... don't worry about it. i was 4 foot tall when i was in the 9th grade... in elementary i was afraid of the other boys cause my size and one day i grew...its becasue of a small blockage but may not be the case in that. Your daughter may have the same thing but its best to get a physical or something and check with a doctor and see why and if not see what happens naturally...i am a guy so im not sure how girls go through this.
