my 3-year old son is fond of playing puzzles, what does it bring advantage and disadvantages to him?
Answers:
Puzzles are good for cognitive-perceptual or visual-perceptual skills which are important for reading. =) it is really good for problem solving and attention to details also.
Other Answers:
Let him. It improves problem solving skills, hand eye coordnation, and self motivation.
that means he can concentrate(yay!) and focus(yay!) He's analytical, the main problem with being analytical is you tend to OVER think things....but that won't be a problem until later.
Puzzles offer great skills! Believe it or not...math. Shapes and arranging are basic math skills. Puzzles are great maniuplatives--offer hand/eye coordination and use of dexterity. They teach colors and shapes and sorting, and depending on the puzzle can teach animals, letters, numbers, size, oh the list goes on and on.
Your son needs to not obscess over puzzles but use them in a vairety of "learning through play" toys. Most of todays toys can be classified as this. Let him play with puzzles!!!

Can't think of any disadvantages, except perhaps that you might have to pick up the harder ones at night! *grin*
Yes, I have had lots of practice with my ABC's doing alphabet puzzles after our little guys give up on them.
But the advantages are too many to list! Just be glad he's playing a thinking game, and not staring mindlessly at the TV!
puzzles are great for kids. As long as he also plays with other toys, the more puzzles the better!
