HELP ME PLEASE!?! Potty training question?

I have tried EVERYTHING to pottytrain my 3.5 year old. He goes pee no problem. He even goes to bed at night in his undies. My problem is he won't poop on the toilet. I've tried putting in a small potty for him. My parenting mag. says leave the underwear on him. He'll only get constipated once. He poops in them too though! I've tried giving in and putting a pull up on him (but I don't want to give in all the time). He has sat on the potty and will hold it in until he gets off then will do it in his undies or pull up. Please please someone help me with some advice. I go through alot of laundry. He is due to start school next September too. Why won't he poop on the potty?! Thank you in advance and if you're only looking for the 2 points go answer someone else. I'm desperate.

Answers:
I have a 3.5 y/o son too...so I can relate. Sounds like he's in it for the power struggle. I would put him in a pullup, and not talk about it anymore. Give him a few weeks of pooping in his pants, just change him without any fussing (on your part). Once he realizes that you aren't focusing on it anymore, he might surprise you and just go on his own in the potty. Then you'll be free to fight with him about the other things 3 year olds fight about, like food, naps, etc. School is still a year away, and how many normal 4 or 5 year olds still wear pullups in kindergarten? I think he'll come around for you before NEXT Sept. If not, it will only take him one stinky day at kindergarten to realize he's a big boy!
It can be scary for kids to poop on the potty Why? I am not sure but... Sounds really bad but bribe him with treats it worked well for my girls. It only took 1 week
