How much do you charge/pay for an at-home daycare?
Hourly: $3.50/hour
½ day (5 hours): $16.25 ($3.25/hour)
Full day (10 hours): $30.00 ($3.00/hour)
Weekly (50 hours): $137.50 ($2.75/hour)
Monthly (200 hours): $500 ($2.50/hour)
I would also charge $2 per day for meals and snacks, which would be all organic (more expensive than conventional food)
Does that sound ok?
Also, any advice on starting an at-home daycare?
Answers:
I have a day care in my home and I charge $125 a week for 50 hours of care, 7:30-5:50 Mon-Fri. I have a part time rate of $100 a week for 25 hours or less. I only allow one part time child at a time for personal budget reasons. I have contracts with all the parents and the weekly fees are to be paid whether their child is in attendance or not. I would suggest you take this route as well. It will save you a lot of haggling over hours and money. A lunch and 2 snacks are included in the fees. I also provide bedding, bibs, cups, bottles, eating utensils, and bowls and plates. Parents must provide diapers, wipes, diaper rash ointment, or anything else specifically for their child. Parents of infants must provide formula and baby food. I would say for your situation, the child with dietary restrictions, the parents need to provide the food for that child. It's just like baby food or formula, it's something that only that one child will eat and not things that you would normally buy and prepare for other children you may watch. If the parents want to keep her diet like that, it's great but they need to take care of it while she is in your care. Send me an email if you have any questions about starting up a day care, would love to help if I can. Good luck!

It sounds pretty good to me my kids go to daycare every day you should give the parents a choice if they want to pay you for the meals in snacks or bring there own but everything sounds great and good luck
Most people are willing to pay a little more an hour when you do it hourly cause most places charge you per week wether you are there or not and alot of two parent households have different days off not just weekends.
I charge 3.00 an hour but I am in a smaller city. I know it goes alot higher in big cities.
Most states also have a meal plan that u can apply for. You follow nutritional standards and they give u vouchers and stuff.
I would think that a flat rate would be less confusing. Meaning, not by the hour.
If you care for a child only a couple of hours every once in a while, that would be an hourly rate, but those that come on a regular basis, there would be 1/2 day, full day, weekly. And I would just say food is included.
Exmp: $150 per week with breakfast, lunch & snacks included. I'm not suggeting that. It's just an example.

Before you open a day care in your home, check your state laws. Most states require licensing and insurance for in-home childcare. You can check the internet by googling 'child day care laws in (state)'. I would be willing to share what I have learned about the good, bad and ugly of in-home childcare with you (parents, taxes, children, equipment, etc). Just email me @ jaxschildcare@yahoo.com
Rates are dependent upon your area. For my area (and my in-home day care) I can only charge $75 per week and keep clients. Another in-home provider in another state can charge $150 per week. Call around to local day care centers and get an average of what they charge and go from there.
If you become licensed, there is a Federal Food Program you can apply for. It pays you to feed the children balanced meals.

I pay $160 a week (up to age 2) then it goes down to $125 a week. this is for M-F 7:30AM-5PM. She does $40 a day for "drop off." Food is included in this price.
It all depends on the city and area of your city you live in. I am a licensed day care provider myself and the rates vary from area to area. I consider anything over 25 hours a week a full-time week and charge a flat rate based on the age group. Under 25 hours I charge $4 per hour for part-time, but I charge a minimum charge of $50 per week for part-time since that is taking up an opening. I figure since you are only allowed so many children in your care if one is part-time you should get some reasonable compensation. I break the age groups down as follows: infants $110 per week, ones and twos $95 per week, threes and fours $85 per week, and 5 and up (if they are full-time) $75 per week. I also give a $15 per week multi-child discount to families with 2 or more children that are full-time. I include the meals and snacks in those prices because I participate in a state-funded food program that reimburses me for snacks and meals, however you do have to be state licensed to enroll in that program.
