3 yr old drinking at night?

my 3 yr old drinks 3-5 sippy cups at night, he whines and cries like he is having bad dreams- he has surgery when he was 6 months old i think it may have given him dry mouth-- my doctor said not to let him drink of a night to let him cry but i think thats harsh b/c he will cry until he wakes up and then he screams- you cant calm him down...any suggestions? PS he eats and drinks good during the day.

You might have to get rid of the cups as they may be some sort of comfort thing. Maybe buy him a new teddy and say from now on you can have a glass of water before bed. If he wakes up offer him only water from a glass,he will soon tire if this as it isn't as fun than out of a sippy cup, Oh the teddy bear is something he can cuddle when he sleeps instead of sipping a cup, Its almost like weaning a breastfed child who falls asleep on the breast which my boys did. Getting them to cuddle Teddy's instead was how I weaned them.
