whoa there! who said that he is behind??? my 4 year old only started talking last year, same as walking, the lot!!! but guess what he got sent to all these Dr's and tests and they found nothing wrong with him at all.
just be patient and trust your instinct, play with him and repeat the words he tries to say with the way they are supposed to sound?? just let him do it in his own time. people are to eager to label a child these days!!!!

you don't need to buy all these instruments to teach your child just look round the house for ideas!!!

good luck!!!!

i've never heard of those but i get all my pregnant friends baby einstien dvds and the rave about them....check it out

Truly I don't know about babybumblebee dvds but i have heard of them. they seem to be worth the price, if that is what you really think you need. I believe that all children develop at their own speed there really is no right or wrong. unless your kid is 12 and is still on the bottle. human interaction is the best bet i think just give it time and trust you kid I found with my daughter who is nearly three that constant interaction with different people has made her pick up things quicker. In some things she is over a year in front. You should just try to spend as much time interacting with him and see what happens. I know that my daughter was and is very good at absorbing things I don't know if it will be the same for your son?

By far, the best developmental exercise for your son will be for him to have interaction with people, not the TV. Read books to him (even if you only get a page into them, or look at pictures, or read them while he's playing with something else.) Offer him choices ("Do you want the red crayon or the blue crayon? Oh, you chose the red one!"). Go on walks, practicing steping over obsticles, steps, different surfaces (gravel, rocks, grass, hills).

If you are concerned, talk to your doctor or look up your local ECI (Early Childhood Intervention) about some personalized therapy for him. ECI costs based on need, so if you don't have a lot of money, look it up anyway.

18-month old son in ECI for speech and physical therapy for developmental delays. And not a single therapist has ever recommended a DVD.
http://www.lissencephaly.org/education/eci.htm I agree that what your son needs is not expensive DVDs, but maybe some free library books and time spent interacting with other children and adults. Take him to the library every week--it will be a special thing for him to do with mommy or daddy, and he will grow to love the books. Also look into playgroups for him to attend with other children. But more TV will likely make the problem worse, not better.
