is my son ready or not?

My son is 2in a half and last night went into the bathroom and took off his pants and diaper and sat on the potty chair. do you think this is a sign that he is ready. Im worry about starting to soon, so wanted to know if this means he is ready. another thing is that he has a speach delay and dont know he will be able to tell me when has to go. please help troubled mom...if have ways that worked best with you children please share.

Answers:
Kids learn from what they see. If he's already using the potty, then start working on his training. You don't want to force him, but give him positive reinforcement when he uses it. Lots of parents would really welcome the opportunity, take it.

just watch him if he wants to use it he will.. he is the only one that knows when he is ready! my son did the same thing (he is 2 also) but then he stopped.. just give him time.
wow! that's great! no, it's not to soon... and especially when he went all by himself, is a sign that he's ready for the potty... good luck!

speech delay isn't a problem... just read to him, speak a lot with him and etc... he will catch up himself. (my daughter did the same thing). if you do feel uncomfortable, i would advice to see your pediatrician.
I think that is a good sign he's ready to start learning. He's showing interest in the toilet, so that's a good thing. And he apparently understands that you are supposed to sit on it for some reason.
Try using a sign (sign language) when you teach him how to go. He may not be able to verbalize his needs to you, but little children usually do great with hand gestures. Good Luck
If he is doing this on his own he IS ready MOM.
He doesn't have to be verbal at all to potty train. Deaf children potty train. Just teach him to come and get you if he has to go, or teach him to say one word when he needs to. If he's going on his own, that's ok, too. I'd take him to the store and let him pick out some big boy underwear and make a HUGE deal about it. They love that kind of attention. You can offer him a reward each time so that he continues to want to do it, like a sticker. I used skittles for mine and stickers. Hooray for you!!!!!!!!!! And him!!!!!!!!!
