2 year old's birthday party?

A craft area would be great - crayons, markers, stickers, with assorted papers and coloring sheets (which you can print from online sites). For my daughter's party last year, we covered a large section of the fence with paper, and then had assorted paints and glitter, etc. for them to create their masterpiece.
Other ideas:
- a fishing game with the kiddie pool
- rock painting (find assorted shapes and sizes and set out with washable paints)
- Water bottles filled with water and a little food coloring - hang some paper or just squirt right on the fence. Or, buy some cheap t-shirts at a craft store and spray on those
- water balloons (with a clean-up game afterward to get all the balloon pieces!)

Bouncy castles are great and if you haven't got much space you can get quite small ones, but from my experience you will have to try and keep the grown ups off it so the kids can play lol Just buy Ballons and they could play wit them and make up a little game or sumthin........ you could also buy sprinkles or sumthin so they can get wet and have fun ....thats if its hot outside..

I got a shoe box and decorated it like a treasure box.Buried it somewhere on my front lawn, Dollar store goodies in it (enough to equally divide).Then we all started in the yard and went "Off the deck.......Around the pool........in and out of the swing set ........and so on until they found the X on the ground and dug up the treasure!They are still talking about it 2 yrs later they remember it!

I hate to be the party pooper but with 5 to 8 kids from 1 to 5 years old and a kiddie pool, your concerns should be focused on safety - not keeping the kids out of the adults hair.
Toddlers are too young for organized play. Have balls and other soft toys available for them to play with . I'd put the squirt guns away too.
It takes 2inches of water and just moments for a child to drown.
If you want to have some games - close down the pool area first. Then choose things like dancing to music - which little ones love and is very amusing for parents. Award prizes to each child - for the slowest dance - the silliest dance, etc.
For my daughters 3rd bday we had a party for her friends and cousins and I had the same problem you did. Here's a couple things I did. I got a huge piece of paper (took up a significant part of the yard) and provided lots of crayons. We told the kids that it was a big birthday card and they were supposed to color bday pictures for my daughter. It kept them busy for quite awhile. Also, most kids love playdoh and they have playdoh party packs with twelve little containers of playdoh. We got 4 of those and the kids all sat around playing playdoh for a long time. They played so nice that it didn't take a whole lot of parental supervision and the parents got a break :) For her next bday, I am planning on making balloon animals. I learned how on the internet. There's many websites that teach you step by step how to easily learn. Good luck with your party! You need to keep them busy. It's the child's party and you need to entertain them. Why are you having one if you are mostly concerned with keeping them out of your hair?
It's the parents obligation to keep their child occupied. Having a birthday party should involve not just the child, but the parents as well. Playing kiddie games like pin the tail on the donkey, can be a fun activity for the children. Making up treat bags and blowing up balloons is also something to consider.
We had my now 2.5 year old's 2 year party at our house. I was surprised, but they kept themselves busy with ride on toys and pulling each other in the wagon. I was surprised how well they played & kept each other busy.If you don't have kids that still put things in their mouth, balloons are great. They love to bop them around in the air. If balloons are out of the question, then beach balls are great too. Bubbles are always a hit too.
