14 month old preemie....just started holding the bottle occassionally. How do I get her to accept a sippie?

I have a 14 mo. old girl who just will not hold her bottle (she's done it twice for Daddy, but not for me) or lay down on the floor and hold it herself. She, too, will not try a sippie cup. I think that she just doesn't understand it. I have tried Playtex and Gerber so far with soft spouts and she won't even have it in her mouth for two seconds without pushing it away. I think that she doesn't understand that you have to suck, like you are drinking out of a straw, and get easily frustrated. What should I do? Shouldn't she be weaned from the bottle by now, or at least begin weaning? Her next pediatrician appointment isn't until Nov. 7th. I plan on asking then, too. Thank you.

Answers:
Let her go at her own pace...all kids have a different timeline.
If you are sure she is fed.....and not in NEED of a bottle ...place the sippy cup out between feedings...and then randomly say ...Mommy needs a drink...I'm so thirsty...and use the sippy cup. She will want to try it because you are doing it. Pretty soon she'll grab it out of your hand whenever you go for it.
Don't force it. She'll do it when she's ready. My son hated the Playtex sippie though. I recommend the one by Aventis. It's pink and is kinda shaped like an apple. The spout is better. Good luck!
