15 month old throws food from high chair, how do you get them to stop?

I know lots of kids do it when they aren't hungry anymore, but she does it when she first sits down to eat - so she does it when she is hungry. She is also only at the 5% for weight (and 95% for height) and classified as underweight, so withholding food is not an option (several books say you should end mealtime the moment they throw food).

So far my method has been when she throws something, I tell her that when you throw food you lose the privilege of feeding yourself and then I feed her the rest of her food, which doesn't seem to bother her at all. I've basically been feeding her everything because usually the first thing I give her gets tossed from the high chair. She has to learn to feed herself one of these days right???

Answers:
she throws, you feed her-they learn early how to manipulate. But remember she is only 15 months, a little too young for her to rationalize why you are feeding her. stop trying to get her to feed herself, that will come in time-feed your child until she is up to her weight and when she is bigger you can start giving her small amount of food, if she throws it then don't give her anymore and make her sit and watch others eat. she will see others feed themselves and when shes hungry enough she will eat when you give her food. Now don't starve her, but slowly introduce this self feeding to her-but most of all I would lay off the effort and get her weight to a comfortable level so that once you start holding food when she throws it-it will not harm her, she can afford to miss a meal now and then. she likes the interaction when you feed her-its a bonding thing..Good Luck Mom!!
I have a fourteen month old and trust me....everthing at that age is a game and a test...of your patience...good luck....I have had no luck thus far,.
