My two year old doesn't eat meat, is this typical?

She will eat chicken!

Answers:
My two year old won't eat meat either. Our doctor said two is the fussy age. We disguise meat by mashing it into potatoes. We also mix it with a bit of mayo to make wraps or sandwiches. As long as they are eating healthy otherwise my doctor assures me she'll grow out of it in the months to come.

My son (he is 8 now) was the exact same! I used to hide some "protein" for him in stuff like spaghetti and chile. I think if they are getting their protein else where, it is ok.

they tend to eat what they like ... like the rest of us... so yes it is normal SEEN ON TV A CHILD WILL NOT WANT CERTAIN THINGS TILL LATER IN LIFE
TRY TO REMEMBER WHEN YOU WERE YOUNG AND DIDN'T LIKE THE DIFFERENCES IN FOODS

Yes it is normal, at least for my 3year old around two all she would touch was chicken. she doesnt like ground meat still too much unless it is in a patti or something like spagetti sauce. I feel it is a texture thing... but just every now and again give the kid new meat to try now Makaila will eat chicken, hamburgers, Pork chops cut up small, fish (which is really easy to trick them on) Children will develope there taste for foods over time. Not eating meat is just like not eating peas. maybe he doesn't like the way it looks, or tastes just quite yet. But don't give up! Offer him something in place of it if he won't try it.

She doesn't eat meat because she is not suppose to. Actually, you can give her protein for healthier sources, such as beans, nuts, tofu, as well as green leafy veggies, spirallina, is a good source as well :)

Thats not normal. Run b--ch,run for your life!

This is so normal. Kids that age tend to get bored with certain things or get real picky about the texture of certain foods.
Keep trying to give her a variety of foods, like poultry or fish and encourage more fruits and veggies so she's not lacking in protien.

My son is 3 years old and he doesn't eat meat...the only meat he will eat is chicken...but they say it's normal Yes, it's very typical. Some taste buds develop later, also most young don't seem to like meat. Often they cite that it is too hard to chew. They all love cheese though! Be sure to give her a multiple vitamin (like Flintstones, or another kids one) daily, and keep up her protein intake.

My son is still a picky eater.I would feed him like chicken noodle soup and he would save all the meat to the side of his mouth. He looked like a chipmunk. I worried a lot. As long as she is getting cheese, peanut-butter, yogurt, I would be comfortable. My Doctor said he didn't know any kids this age that starved themselves. 2 is a picky eating time anyway.

Mother of 5

Try not to gave it to her alot.Try cooking meat once a week maybe, just maybe she will get use to it.

Yes, it's completely normal. Young children often have a problem chewing meat because they don't have the teeth they need to complete the process properly. Meat that is ground up is often easier for them such as in tacos or Shepard's pie. You can also supplement it with some of the other suggestions people have made. No, tell your daughter the next time she doesn't eat a hamburger, you gonna shove it down her throat, that should make her understand.

Two year olds are just that "two year olds"....they pretty much do what they want to and eat what they want to...peanut butter is a good substitute for protein. My grand kids liked to eat those awful baby food canned meat sticks....guess they thought that wasn't meat (I wondered myself...LOL) and just give it time...she is just trying her wings and "will"!!!

DONT WORRY, MY DAUGHTER IS 10 AND SHE IS THE SAME WAY. SHE WILL ONLY EAT CHICKEN. GET SOME OF THOSE GUMMI BEAR MULTI VITAMINS AND LET HER CHEW A HALF OF ONE A DAY.

Completely normal. My youngest is now in that stage. He will only eat bologna, hot dogs, and occasionally hamburgers. He won't touch any other meat, not even chicken nuggets unless he doesnt realize it's there like in spaghetti or something. Even with hamburger helper he usually only eats the pasta part. But it's not just meat that he is refusing either. The last month or so, he has basically survived on bologna, hotdogs, ramen, spaghetti, peanut butter and cereal. Don't push the issue, it will just make them more resistant later on. At two years old, they are trying out testing boundaries and making their own choices. As long as they seem to be getting everything they need then don't worry about it too much. If you are concerned talk to your pedi, he might reccommend a supplement like pediasure or something.

Four children. ages 9 5 3 and 2 coz its soft beef ok while chewing it but then she will not no how to swallow it my son 3 will only eat easy too chew things like burgers and bacon grill (tinned)

My son was the exact same way. Now at 9yrs old he still hasn't outgrown it. Just make sure he's getting his protein elsewhere.

Beef is hard to digest. Make sure she gets plenty of fruit in her diet.

Also, make sure that she's still having regular BMs. If she's potty trained, make sure she has a stool that she can rest her feet on when she goes. Her knees should be higher than her belly button. That's true for adults, too, but it's especially important for kids. Their feet generally don't touch the ground for a while and that makes being regular much harder.

If her BMs aren't regular, she may have an especially hard time with digesting beef or pork. Fruit has lots of fiber and it's easier to get kids to eat than vegetables.

Trust her to eat when she's hungry. Our bodies generally know what they need.
