My three year old belly button is red, what could it be? How do I treat it?

Is this something to be alarmed about?

Answers:
if it just started today i wouldn't worry too much..he is three years old and many of things could have happened like poking themselves, or a bite or something like that!!! ask if it itches and if it does then put Benadryl cream on it or Neosporin if it hurts...
if the problems lasts for more than two days or gets worse like looks more swollen or infected then take them to the Dr.

Other Answers:
your child could have a hernia in his/her navel call the doctor tomorrow about it

Could be he is picking at it. My girls do that from time to time. If it seems to hurt him, then call the doctor and take him in to be seen. The doctor could better help you there. It depends on how red we are talking it could be a sign of in fection but if the baby just lost the umbilical cord then it could be very normal. If you are really worried take him or her into the dr, better safe than sorry cause none of us can see it to judge and say if it is normal or not.

try rubbing alchohal on a q-tip, but first consolt you childs doctor before trying. i use this about once a month on my 2 1/2 and 5 year old. sometimes from being dirty or played with and poked it can get red. it is a small space and is hard for bath water to get into.
