How do I get my 29 month old son to keep his fingers out of his mouth?

We recently took our sons' pacifiers away from them (one son is 29 months old and the other is 13 months old). We weaned them off of it (First it was for nap and bedtime only, then just for bed time, and now not at all.) It's been a week since either of them had their pacifier and all is well (YAY!!!) My problem is, my older son constantly has his fingers in his mouth. He's not sucking his thumb...he just puts his fingers in his mouth to chew on them or whatever. Not sure why he's doing it. All I have to say to him is, "Honey, take your fingers out of your mouth...that's yucky!" and he does immediately, but a short time later they're back in. What can I do or say to him to make him stop??

Answers:
Try sour apple spray. Ask your pediatrician or pharmacist where to get it. It is made for that purpose and works well.
Try cayenne.
