20 month old son will only eat 7 month tins of baby food, help?

As it says my son is 20 months old and will only eat tins of food for a 7 month old. He will only drink milk NOTHING else. The only other foods he will eat are sandwiches with meat or cheese on them. I'm sure that its not a dislike of textures but more a flavour thing because he will eat spag bol in the 7 month tin but won't eat spag bol that I make.
He won't even eat chocolate or crisps, how unusual is that? Though I'm not complaining about that! I have asked my health visitor and she said to basically starve him and let him go thirsty so then he will have to eat and drink but that I think is just plain cruel. Any suggestions would be greatly appreciated.

Don't let your baby starve! It's a new phase most toddlers go through. Soon enough he'll start opening up to new foods & drinks. Wait until he only wants to wear a certain piece of clothing for days on end. All children are different, just be patient with him. Good luck.
