How do I get my 14 month old to talk?
Answers:
Depending on whether your child is busy with other things like learning to walk, having a big area in the house with which to explore, etc. will depend on when they speak with any type of vocabulary. My son started walking at ten months, and was so busy exploring that he didn't really start talking until he was about 20 months.

Have you had his hearing checked? My daughter was a late talker and we found out she needed tubes in her ears to help the drainage. After the tubes were put in she added to her vocabulary quickly.
20 word vocabulary? How'd you come up with that number? SOme children can't talk beyond Mama or Dada becuase of lack of teeth, for example.
I've taught my son Baby Signs & he communicates fine. Maybe that would help.
Babies progress at their own rates.... my nephew was 18 months old before he started actually talking..... so, you may want to ask the doctor if there are any problems, and if not, just repeat words to him and talk to him like a normal person, hes bound to pick up some words

Raising my nephew and neice Just keep talkin to him and read his lots of books thats what we did with my lil cousin!
20 words?!?!? that is crazy. don't worry. he is still a baby. kids learn at there own rate. maybe he is concentrating on another mildstone. Just continue to have conversations, talk clearly, be patient. it will all work out.
Talk to him like you would an adult, teach him signs to communicate until he begins speaking more, it will ease some of your frustrations.I don't have much to contribute an an answer, but wanted to give you moral support.
I have a 20mo son and he isn't talking much either. he barely says mama or dada, but he babbles a lot. he does say what HE thinks are words, and he likes to go "roar" like he is roaring. he can also say what almost sounds like 'Yeah" or "Yay" or something like that. Just started saying "woah."
anyway- my mom said that I myself didn't say my first word until 2 and then started talking. the ped. did mention that if A parent was a late talker then that could be the case again with him.
I am waiting with him and will see what happens from now until he turns 2 in August.
I also was told there is "early intervention" and you can have them come to your house to evaluate your child. I was advised to make the appointment now for when he is 2 because there is a long wait, this way I have the appointment if needed and if he DOES start talking more by then i can just cancel the appointment.
ask your ped. if you have an early intervention program in your state (I am in PA) and make an appointment now (if they have one) for when your child wil be close to age 2.
read, read, read him books get him used to hearing vocabulary that you may not use in every day life. read all the time 20 books a day. read him to sleep. all the time i promise you will see a change
Just try to get him to say other words all the time-out the blue.Try easy words and words close to Mama or Dada. Try Hi,Bye,Ear,Eye,Nose,No,Stop-th... tend to be some of the first for some reason. My step-daughter is 18 months and she can say these and a few others. Also let her be around older children-babies tend to learn faster that way.
My son is 14 months old and doesn't say too many actual words either, but he understands much much more and signs a little. i wouldn't worry. Einstein didn't talk until he was 4 years old and was a genius!Yes i have an idea teach him how to drink out of a straw.Because that will make his(or her) lips stronger so then they will talk ealier
