Need help potty training a boy. Any advice?

I have tried several things from toys to stickers. I can get him to go pee it is the other thing that is hard. This is my first time potty training. He is 3 1/2 years old and want to put him in preschool.

Answers:
I have two boys, and both of them weren't easy training to do #2 on the potty. I basically had to get really aware of 'when' they tended to do #2, and then trap them in the bathroom. I had books for them to read, I sat with them in there, I spoke encouragingly and soothingly. Neither one wanted to experience it, but eventually nature got the best of them and they just 'had to go'. After the first (or second or third) time going poop on the potty they were much less apprehensive about it. They still occasionally did poop in their underwear or training pants, but after a few months, never. Just start watching him and notice when he tends to go, then put him in the bathroom. It's hard, I know, and frustrating, but he'll be happy that you're firm and sympathetic. Good luck! (My guys Jack and Will trained around 2.5 and 3 - most boys do train late, so don't blame yourself.)

Have a male figure take him to he bathroom with him. May sound gross, but that is what my ex husband did with our sons, and they caught on pretty quickly. Also, make a big deal of it when he goes for the first couple of times. Praise him alot. Gove him a special treat afterwards ( i know this sounds like animal training...lol)

WHAT THE H** WHY YOU STILL CHANGING THAT GROWN A** MAN HE SHOULDVE BEEN USING THE POT I BET HE CAN SAY EVERYTHING UNDER THE SUN HE PROBABLY SMELLS WORSE THAN YOU SO HOW CAN YOU DO IT LET ME STOP because i dont know if he has a problem or not if he does then you have to work with him if he doesn't then there is something not right if there is another child then he will do things so that he can feel he is the baby still give him luv Try putting Cherrieo's in hte toilet and telling him to pee on them, it worked with my son(by 3 he was pottie trained and ridding a bicycle w/o training wheels...He has 3 sisters so no man to show him the ropes(if your hubby can help tell him to take your son in the bathroon when he goes so your son can see how "big boys" use the pottie. That might work!

Sounds totally crazy, but if he is with you most of the day, leave everything off from the waist down, and make sure they see the scrubby and soap to clean up with.My son was just 2,but knew he was doing something. Those stupid pull-ups are just allowing a child to keep doing whatever they're doing, without any discomfort. My son never even had a problem, after he knew that cleaning it up,or going to the toilet like a big boy,was his choice.

Have a male go in with him or if that is not possible get him a potty chair that sits on the potty and he should go.

My son was also that old. I don't know if it was a new baby in the house issue (probably) or what. I made him scrub his underwear in the sink after he'd go in them. Then after a while I just decided not to say a word to him about the accidents and suddenly he trained himself. Maybe I was making too much of an issue about it. Cherrios in the toilet, tell him try to pee on the cherrio, it makes it fun! also try to take him to the potty every hour or so, untill he knows what *the feeling is* and knows when he has to go. Remember when ur training its okay for accidents. Dont get mad at him if he pees when he is in big boy pants. If he gets in trouble or you yell at him, hes gunna get scared, and accently go in his pants and change before u notice it. U also might wanna have a guy take him in there with him. and show him what to do. be his role model. It takes time for children to learn. but the cherrio thing works :-p

Ask his favorite male figure to help you out. I did that with my son and wow it worked fast.

Let him go with a male figure. That's wht I did with my 3 year old boy. I just got him to start going. Good luck. Preschool will help also.

dont push so hard. a child knows when they are ready. just introduce them and let them follow daddy to the bathroom.
