Funny I get to answer this. I used to be a notorious booger eater until my grandma made me eat one of her boogers, I never thought about eating another booger again.

You said appealing behavior hahahahaha Welcome to mothering boys...lol I raised 3 and they have a habit of doing the grossest things you can imagine. I think you are doing the best thing the only other thing I can think of is just trying to ignore it may be that it is a way to get attention. When he isn't doing this maybe try a board game and if it comes up again you have to stop because it is a behavior that makes people around him uncomfortable and so he will see that there are more benefits to stopping this behavior than continuing it. Good Luck
first explain that his nose is a germ and dirt catcher, to keep them from getting inside him and making him sick. If the problem is that the build up annoys him show him how to remove it with a tissue wrapped on his finger tip then throw it away. The tissue also will let him see the actual dirt etc. collected and may deter this behavior. good luck!
maybe you could gve him a award every two weeks if he doesnt pick his nose but if he does he wont get the awardput him in time out How do you stop children from picking their noses--at least in public?
It's simple: Keep tissues around. When you see that finger approach the nose, slip a tissue into your child's hand. No need to establish eye contact or approach your child head on. Be casual and non-confrontational. You might need to demonstrate how to use the tissue and explain why it's important. Sometimes demonstrating and stating the obvious is necessary with young children. Also, purchase a small package of tissue for your child's pocket; your goal is to transfer the tissue responsibility from you to your child.
Don't force the issue, however. Anything in parenting that you make much of can have a long-lasting effect. You don't want to engage in a nose-picking power struggle. If you do unintentionally slip into a nose-picking vs. tissue-using power play, you'll need to drop out of the struggle. But don't worry--your child isn't doomed to a life as a nose picker. His peers take over where you leave off with statements like this, "Jayme's got that finger up the nose again--everyone look!" True, society's mores are best taught by parents, but if we don't get the job done, peers often step in for us. Their tactics are harsher but often swifter.
Realize your child may stop picking around peers but if it continues to get a rise out of you, your child may do a little of it when you're around just to get your predictably disgusted reaction.

http://familyfun.go.com/parenting/child/skills/expert/dony107fanosepick/dony107fanosepick.html Talk to your son about germs. Teach your son about germs. Tell him germs are little bitty bugs that you can not see. Germs make you sick. When you are sick you can not go out and play or go places. Any time you see him with his hands near his face tell him he does not want to get sick and to remove his hands from his face. If you catch him already in the process make him go imediatly and wash his hands and brush his teeth. Here are some sites that may have some cool teaching tools for you and him.

mom and daycare teacher Well, first off...your little boy is normal. All children do things like this. However that does not make it any less disgusting. Me personally I would not lie to him by telling him there are aliens in his nose or that it will fall off, getting into the habit of lying to your child will bite you in the butt eventually. Just tell him that the inside of his nose is "yucky" and that he needs to keep his fingers out of it. IF it itches, he needs to use a tissue.
