How do you get a 20 mt old to give up the BOTTLE at night??

Answers:
Change the milk to water in the bottle children usually push away water at night time and prefer milk ..It's how the children I watch were weaned off at my suggestion and it worked...

swift kick in the throat should do the trick.
i wish i new my daughter just had 8 teeth out because of it and i realy want 2 take it off her 2 goodluck
ween him off slowly then progress to a dummy then chewing gum or a mint!
Just don't give it anymore, or put water in it, then she won't want it.
how about baby cerial before bedtime to fill him up?
i've raised 3 children and in my opinion let them cry and after 1 nite they will love a sippey cup.or try a cup in bed.
Best results we have found was to go cold turkey. It is generally hard for a night or two, but slowly subsides as the child realizes that he/she must learn to go to sleep without it. If the child is old enough, you can tell them stories about fairies or such that want them to start being a 'big boy/girl' and going to bed like mommy and daddy.
We switched to a "sippy" cup. Cried some at first, but by the second night she was OK.
try and give it in a cup bottle first during they day
I had to take my son off the bottle at just 12 months and the doctor told me, THROW THEM OUT, They can be harmful to a child's ears. So I did I threw them out. This route requires a lot and i mean A LOT of will power, after about 4 nights the little one will be ok. Lay him/her down with one of those transitional sippy cups. Although he/she may not care for them at first, if he/she gets thirsty enough they WILL DRINK it and eventually forget all about the bottle.
Don't until maybe he is comfortable with something else. If its not early enough then try a comforting way
with my son i got him completely off the bottle during the day before i attempted at night. then i would feed him a snack, cuddle him, turn on the mobile and the stereo (lullyby music), lay him down with a kiss and ease out of the room. some nights it worked no problems, other nights i went thru that 4 or 5 times before he wore himself out and went to sleep. whatever you do, don't try to switch a sippy with the bottle. any fluid left in his mouth as he falls asleep is bad. it'll rot his poor little teeth because it sits in his mouth longer than if he were awake. if you have to, give him a binky and let him get used to that. its much better for him and now drs are saying its safer for them to sleep with a binky then with nothing. good luck!
You might want to try swapping the bottle with a sippie cup. Gerber has a brand of cup that has a soft tip for a baby/toddler to drink out of. Just replace the bottle with a cup. And eventually, your 20 month old will be able to go to bed without either. It worked for my son.
Did it 3 month ago with my 2 yr old. Took her to the Dr. to her checkup and the Dr. took it away for her, telling her it was for a baby that didn't have one. When we got home and she asked for it I told her "the doctor gave it to a baby" and she didn't even cry for it. So ask someone out of your circle of friends or family to take it away. It worked for me, hope it works for u 2!!
the only thing i can tell you is its not the baby giving up the bottle its the mom and dad giving up the quiet... you dont get her off it slowly, you just have to take it from her/him yes, the baby will scream bloody murder for a while but you just have to let her cry and eventually she WILL go to sleep
another thing you could try would be to give her a cup(with no lid, a 20mnth old shouldnt have a bottle anyways :)) about 30 min before bedtime and let them have thier big girl big boy drink them let them play until its time to go to bed and put them straight down, bottle forgotten, straight to bed :)
my trick was gettingher the milk get bad and after a cuple sips she got gross out and she never wanted it again.
Who is more at need here.
Careful of not selfishly just wanting the crying to end and giving in.
Give one bottle before bed time. (If your stopping at night its good to go ahead and ween the child from wanting the bottle all together)
Do not allow anymore until morning.
Give a pacifer for the crying in lieu of a bottle.
If crying is severe I'd check after awhile and offer an sippy cup with water just for a few sips to soothe the throat. (Probably not wanted)
During the day start putting things not so wanted by the child ,like just water in the bottle and put the favored drinks in a sippy cup. :)
Even though she should be off of the bottle by now you can aproach it like i did when my son was about 1-11/2. Tell her she can have the bottle until she is 2,because when she turns 2 she has too give her bottles to all the new babies and and start drinking out of a big girl cup(a sippy cup) or the new babies will not have bottles and will be sad. Remind her of this often to prepare her for that day. The night before her birthday have her help you clean the bottles and put them in a bag by the front door for the baby nurse from the hospital to pick up during the night. When she wakes up on her birthday have her check outside to see if the bottles have been picked up. Out side in place of the bottles she should find a gift containing big girl cups and a thank you note from the nurse.
"GOOD LUCK"
My father decided to break a 3 year old of the bottle. He opened the back door, showed Rocky our dog in the back yard, and threw the bottle to him. Rocky saw the dog go toward the bottle and daddy shut the door. My sister ran out, grabbed the bottle, gave Max a treat, and ran back around the corner. Daddy then opened the door, let Rocky see Max licking his chops, and told him Max had eaten his bottle. That was the end of the bottle. Rocky only asked for it once. He was told, again, that Max ate it.
go get a sippy cup, like the NUBY ones at wal-mart, the have a very soft silicone nipple and are easy to drink from. My son adjusted the day I gave him the "big boy cup" at 10 months old!
ok I have a 3 yr old boy and a 1 yr old girl when I had my second babie (the girl) I accidently confused the bottles so my boy left the bottle that same day he was 1yr& 1/2....on the other hand the pacifier he would take it to the daycare and they would try so hard just like me but we could never takeit off of him so my mother-in-law put smashed beans and put it all over the pacifier and would say"eewwww look babie its poopoo" so what I did to my babie girl I put beans and she alsoleft it at 1&1/2
