Why is it that a child has a 50/50 chance of putting their shoes on the correct feet, yet never get it right?
Answers:
That is such a darling observation. You sound like a wonderful parent, getting much joy from watching your child grow. Thank you for sharing that on here. It made me smile in rememberance of my own when they were little. I can still here my daughter at age two telling me adamantly, "I do it myPELF!!"

some shoes have a picture of each foot on the inside. this helps some kids figure it out.
How old is this child? Don't worry about it. My husband wore his boots an entire evening -- the wrong feet -- and he didn't notice until we got home. Sad part -- me either.
my daughter puts them on backwards so she can see the cartoon character better that is supposed to be on the outside of her shoes. Try shoes without characters if this is your problem.
I think that it is not an issue of not getting it right. I think it boils down to the fact that when a child puts on the shoes on the correct feet, we don't notice, but when that same child does not, then we do notice.
hahahhahaha....so true! I think b/c kids' feet are so short and don't have much of a curve to them that they can't tell which way they go. I got my step daughter to learn by puting an R and an L inside all her tennis shoes, that helped some. It was easier in the spring/summer with sandles, cuz I would put a permanent marker "big toe" on them for her to line up. Her mom hated me marking up all her shoes, but she learned before she turned 5.
It just depends on what you think is right way of putting on shoes!
they think they did just fine .
The ability to figure out that they are shoes and go on that part of you body called feet is a great huge thing in itself.
Let alone knowing your left from your right. That kind of ability to learn that is a little ahead of knowing where they go on your body.
I don't know the age of this particular child you are speaking of, but if they are under 2 years old then just think how much they have learned in only eing alive for 24 months. They have at least quadrupled in size. They have come from not being able to lift their head without help, to walking, talking, eating on their own, recognizing people as someone they know or not, they know the parts of their body and what clothes go on them, etc.....
If they are learning all of those things it is kind of difficult to pay attention to the details like how to button a shirt in the right holes or even if it is upside down or not, and which shoe goes on which foot. It doesn't matter to them they are just thrilled to know they go on the bottom instead of the top!
I put a dot of fingernail polish on the outter part of my sons shoes when he puts them on and the dots are touching he knows he has them right. He is 4
lolololol!!!!
I am continually astonished by this as well. Then they insist on walking with the shoes on the wrong feet, even when it hurts! Go figure.
