Does anyone have a child (3yo) that wakes from naps crying?

My son wakes up happy in the morning, but after a nap he wakes up crying. It will last anywhere from 20 minutes to an hour. The only time he doesn't cry is if he wakes up in the car. Nothing comforts him. He says nothing hurts. I am out of ideas, and my patience is running out. He gets ~12hrs of sleep each night.

Don't WORRY!!I have 4 kids and its like a reflex for them to cry. It's probably because when he wakes up he sees no one and gets scared so he/she cries. Or it might be a cry to know that I've woken up and need someone to feed me!

nothing to worry about its a commen thing
That is so funny, I was going to ask that question. I work with 9mon to 1yr at my job and most of them do the same thing. Maybe they forget where there are when they wake up.
Or a bad dream, or there upset that they woke up out of there sleep...I hope that doesn't sound stupid, but you never know!
My daughter always wakes up crying. I try to get into her room quick enough and pull her into my lap for a good solid 10 minutes of mommy-snuggle time, then we have her daily sugar snack - 2 cookies or the equivilant. I let her sit in my lap while she eats them and then she's usually ready to go do her own thing. It didn't work right away, but we made it a routine, and it really has helped.

(She's still grumpy for a while after sometimes, though.)
my daughter is 2. she does the same exact thing. usually it winds up being that she has gas. it's impossible to cheer her up. it almost makes the nap not worth the trouble. i've taken to just sitting quietly with her and leting her cry it out until she's ready. I guess we all wake up cranky sometimes. I hope it gets better for you.
My son is very crabby when he wakes up from naps, and sometimes in the middle of the night, he will wake up crying and there is no way to console him. He is 3 too BTW. I've heard about night terrors, where they are partially awake. I though maybe that's what my son was having. I think he might be outgrowing them, thank goodness. Your son is probably okay....just bad dreams.
It's very common for young children to do this after a nap. I wouldn't worry too much. But I must admit, I haven't seen a case where it lasts for more than a minute or two after receiving a hug and a kiss. Sorry, I guess I wasn't as much help as I'd hoped.
My 3 yo has done this since birth. The Dr said that it's not uncommon and isn't a problem right now. The only time she doesn't cry, is if she wakes up with me in the room. Maybe he's just scared.
it's pretty common. I have a 2yo son and he wakes up cranky from his naps. My wife says he gets it from me so maybe it's your husbands fault????
12 hours of sleep a night is plenty; he doesn't need a nap. He may be getting disoriented by the afternoon naps. Try keeping him up all day.
