How badly does about half an hour of tv or less effect a one year old? Anyone with experience....?
Answers:
The American Academy of Pediatrics recommended in 2001 that children under the age of two years watch no television. It slows their brain development and is associated with attentional problems later in life.

My son is 6 years old going on 15!. He has watched as much TV as he does playing his whole life and he knows more that most 10 years old.
Shows him all the Disney classics like Snow White, the Little Mermaid... What about just playing him music from Mozart, that would be better...
Make sure it is educational. When my son was 1 I was working and my father was babysitting for me and his way of keeping him occupied was to turn on the tv. Now I am having problems of getting him away from the tv and also he has become very violent. If you are religious in any way try veggie tales. They are cute, educational and teach right from wrong. I have also been told that kids who watch a lot of tv have become ADHD (they are both the same just different names) and some kids haven't. So I don't think that has been officially determined yet.
That little amount of TV is fine for a child. Make sure the shows are visually stimulating (like the baby einstein series and others like it) or educational.
TV does not really "cause" ADHD, its just that parents learn indirectly over time that even their ADHD kids can sit and focus on TV, so they end up watching it a lot because its one of the few things (like video games) that can hold their stimulation.
So enjoy the time with your baby!

I have 3 year old girl and she has always watched Disney movies or shows that are educational. I also babysit 2 boys, one is 5 and the other is 3, they have a restricted TV schedule of 1/2 an hour a day set by there mother. I find that my daughter has a better imagination than both of the boys ans she can play better by herself and not have to be constantly entertained as the two boys do. My daughter is very active and now has come to picking other things over the TV. The two boys who have been restricted would pick TV over anything.
The tv has become the worlds biggest babysitter, when if used correctly can be a learning tool for your child,I can't imagine as a parent putting a baby in front of a tv,if you need to amuse your baby while your getting on with the necessities, play music
