My twin 11 mon sons will not use sippy cups. What other options are there? I need to ween them off the bottle.

Answers:
Try a Newby sippy cup. It is a sippy cup but the tip has the filling of a bottle. Once they have transitioned to that then you can slowly transition them to a regular sippy cup or just keep them on that if you like until it is time for a cup.

Why do you need to ween them already? If they won't use a sippy cup, they are not ready to be weened.

Plastic cups with straws. There are some that are spill proof. Kind of like a sippy cup but with straw instead. The idea is they look more like grown up cups and makes the child more confident.
I have a 2 and a half year old and a 14 month old, and when both got to around 10-11 months, I had them practice holding the sippy cup and drinking from it to see if they could, and then I just left them in the high chair with it and no bottle a few times.

They cried, and cried for a few minutes and threw the sippy off once or twice. But after a few feedings like that, with no bottles in between, they realized they could feed themselves the formula and started doing it. Get the gerber ones with the handles so they can grasp them easily. I can't remember what they care called, but they come in green and orange and another color.

Also, be careful if it has soft plastic nipples or covers, eventually they'll bite through it and you'll need hard covers.

I know it doesn't sound like the best method out there, but they won't starve, and they realize pretty quickly they have to drink it the new way. It only took us a couple of tries using this method to get to throw out our bottles.
At 11 months, you still have some time to keep trying the sippy cups. I think the standard is one year. Just only offer juice in the cups. They want juice, they'll use the cup. You can continue to give milk in the bottle for awhile, just remember to take it away when they fall asleep. When bottles and cups are left in the mouth while they sleep it causes tooth decay.
Try them on different kinds of sippy cups...some are soft spouts and some are hard spouts. They may like a different kind than what you have tried. Some have spouts that are more like bottles.
if YOU throw those bottels away THEY wont use them

done this with my own kids!!!
Don't wean them, just take the bottle away, you will endure screaming for about a week. I had to do that with my son, I thought it was a HORRIBLE thing for the doctor to tell me to do. But if we didn't do it my son most likely would have continued to have ear infections and he could have lost hearing. Get some of those tapered starter cups, OR the ones with the soft nipple like top. Take all your bottles and throw them in the trash, that way you can't go back because it WILL get ugly, especially with twins.........
I tried to give my son a sippy cup at that age, and again at a year old. He wasn't ready, so I didn't enforce it too much. They need that "sucking" feature. It is like a comfort for them. When they are ready, they will use the sippy cups with no problem. I tried again when my son was 13 months, and he took it like a pro. Also, I tried a bunch of different types of sippy cups. It is like a pacifier, they are picky at what types they have. Just don't force it on them. Hope this helps.
I had a hard time weening my first child too. I finally got so tired of it that I threw away the bottles. She had to use a sippy cup or cry. Believe me, it was not long before she started to use that cup. I showed her that the bottles were "all gone". She really seemed to understand after me saying that a couple times, and showing her that they were not where she knew they had been.
Let them know that if they don't us a sippy they wont get anything to drink. They will thirst enough to where they wont care where the drink is coming from. Just make the sippys and sit them where they can get them. Let them decide to get them when they want them. Throw the bottles away as it is easy for you to just give in to the cries.

Wean them now. Take away the bottles, throw them away, and give them a sippy cup. If they're thirsty, they'll drink. Just like a pacifier . . . throw it away.
I use Nuby cups with built in straws.

My daughter is 17 months and she still wont use a sippy cup with a spout. She probably never will. I guess she is lazy ;-)

If you try it out watch the straw part when you take it apart to wash. They CAN fit down the drain.
Buy sippy cups that have a soft chewy mouth piece as a transition from bottle to hard sippy cup.
