How do I stop my 2 yr old son from biting his nails?

Is this a hereditary thing? The reason I ask is that his aunt and grandmother have this bad habit also. Are there any products out there that can assist me? Help!

Answers:
It is not herditary, but is definately a nasty habit.

Look in the drug store for bitrix or something like that. Near the nail care. It is like nail polish that is bitter.

Secondly, I bite my cuticles (even worse) and find they are much less tempting when they are moisturized and smooth, so use that logic on his nails. Filed smooth nails are not so enticing.

I heard you can get some bitter tasting stuff you can paint on the nails to stop them chewing, dont know if it works or not, ask in your local chemist

Glue. Could be lack of calcium. Anyway you cant force it....he will grow out of it...like i did after 7 years.

I think it is not a bad habit!

put hot sacese on his nails

put finger socks on his hands i know my mum has a habbit of doing this and i have.and my little girl does it from time to time and im pretty sure she does it from wathing me and my mum so just tell people who do it around him to stop it.also iknow u can get a nail varnish that tastes rotten, its not coloured dont worry, just go into ur ocal chemist and ask if it can be used on a toddler, gud luck and take care.

Take him to the quack! If he is doing that at such a young age it means he is stressed out. What the hell is going on in that household huh???
