HELP Please!! What's the difference between Head start and Preschool?

I already found out that the Kids learn things in preschool, what exactly is Head start will they teach my child something too?
I was also wondering how young the kids are that go to head start!??!

Answers:
Headstart is funded by the county / state. My children went to Headstart. Here, in GA, they have to be 4 before they can enter Headstart. You also have to fill out papers about your financial status, etc. They mainly take children of parents that don't have the funds to pay for preschool.

Yes Headstart is the same as preschool. They teach them the fundimentals to get them into Kindy.

Headstart was the best thing I did for my younger two.
I believe Head Start is a goverment funded institute that helps kids with a certain learning need. They also help screen your child if you think there may be a problem.

Preschools are privately owned and operated.
Head Start is preschool, but it's a government run program for children from low income families. Your child may not even qualify for Head Start if there isn't a financial need.

To expand...Yes, the kids do learn at Head Start . It's exactly like any other pre-school, except that it's for low income kids. I am a teacher and we have a Head Start facility on our campus. Their classroom looks like any typical preschool classroom. One thing you can count on though, is that Head Start teachers are properly trained. Since they are held accountable to federal guidelines, they must have the proper ECE units to teach. You won't find that in many other preschools.
what i can tell you about head start.. they can be as youn as three... and the head start people can either come do visits at your home or go to the day care center or pre school that your child attends. i am pretty sure they do evaluations and test the childs skills and developments. just to ee if they are developing right on track. abd if not, they canhelp to get him or her on track, or recommend a school or preschool that may help your child. i am unsure though, if they actually teach like they do in preschool.. i will soon find out. my son is now enrolled in head start and it has not started ye.. he is three.. in a day care and they will come to his class in the center..
