13 month old with dirrahea help please?

My son has had dirrahea for 16 days now and I change a minimum of 6 diapers a day, yesterday 11. I have taken him to the Dr. 3 times now. The BRAT diet didn't work, now they are going to do some lab work but I was just wondering if anyone else has gone thru this or if they might have suggestions on what it could be.

Answers:
16 days is a long time for an upset tummy. Its good the doctor is doing lab work on him. Ensure that a test for Giadia is included in that altho quite often the result is negative even when the child has it. My youngest son had Giadia when very young & went thru the same going to the doctors & getting the runaround. In the end I got a 2nd opinion & as soon as I described the symptoms to the new doctor he told me thats what it was & fixed it with medication to treat it.Dont try fixes that may make him worse wait for the test results.

Other Answers:
squeeze the crap out of him

is he on formula still?if so change it 2 soy.if he drinks milk also try soy.he could be lactose intolerant. Just make sure you keep him hydrated.

i have gone to the shoppers drug mart and there was this stuff for diarreah there it works for toddlers and adults it works wonders it is a power you mix it works good for my little guy

oh man! so sorry to hear that. Have you tried to pin point what may be causing it, like milk. Some infants can develope an allergy to milk later in life. Usually you are so destin to fix things, sometimes if you just let nature take it's course, things will clear up. Oh, by the way, no fruit!!! No Dairy!! Good luck with that, and hope things get better soon.

obviously, Wire1man has no clue -

this may sound like the wrong idea, but make sure he is getting pedalyte to compensate for the electrolytes he is loosing. My son (when he was a baby - now 23) had allergies to milk and this may be an issue - did you just start him on milk and off formula - try switching to soy milk - that could help. If it isn't an alergic reaction, and the dr's can't find a virus to address the issue, keep pestering them until it is resolved!! Change Dr's if necessary!

I would get a second opinion. Give him Pedialite and schedule an appointment with someone else. If your ins. don't cover another clinic ask for a referral from your regular doctor.

Four small children My sister's baby had that problem when he was nine months old... diarraeh for two weeks, they tested his diaper and found out he had tha Rhoda Virus, the next week he was fine, maybe this is is? If it is there's nothing to worry about you just have to let it run it's course!

get some pedia lite and crackers don't give no milk.If you can't buy the pedia lite,go to the DR.and get it free.

He needs Phenergan but most Pediatricains want give them anything, they will say it is better to let it come out to get rid of the virus or what ever has invaded his little body to cause the diarrehea. I would ask for it from the doctor because he can still dehydrate with you doing everything you can to keep him hydrated. My little girl almost died when she was that age from dehydration. She was so dehydrated that her veins had collapsed and they couldnt get an IV in her little hand or foot...I was pumping drink in her as fast as I could and she was throwing it up but it finally helped to pump the veins up enough to insert the IV. 16 days is way to long for him to have diarrehea...if your peditrician want do anything take him to a family doctor they will.

well, if you're going to the dr., then just keep up the brat diet, (bannas, rice, and tea/toast) and make sure he's drinking his pedialyte/eating the pops...there's nothing else you can do except if it's a virus, you have to let it run it's course.
