How can I get my 15 month old daughter to eat more of a variety of food?

All she really seems to love is cheese! Sometimes she will eat chiken or turkey but is very picky! What can I do!?!?

Answers:
just offer her as many different food types as possible, instead of her favorites. she might refuse to eat a meal or maybe even two, but eventually she will find herself hungry enough to snack on things. just always have them available to her.

this is such a great age to expose a child to as many tastes and textures as possible when it comes to food, she's building a foundation of foods she can enjoy later in life.

some things still are unsafe at her age. some parents avoid peanut butter and strawberries even at this age (although i never have) but i would definitly still steer clear of honey until she's atleast two. but aside from unsafe foods theres not reason for her to not be tasting and trying. she might just not like some foods but being limited to only cheese or only hot dogs and crackers is no fun!

she's so tiny still too that too many cheesy things will stop her up and give her gas, and that will make her cranky and uncomfortable.

just avoid the things she's always eating, and provide her with more things to try. or her favorites in tiny portions compared to the new things.

leave her a little plate of something to snack on while playing in the house, especially if she refused to eat at a meal time. as long as she has her bottle and pleanty of fluids she will not suffer from missing ONE full meal. Kids at this age eat every few hours anyway.

Variety is important for nutrition! too bad you can reason with a 15 month old :)

How about cover broccolli, a variety of meats, and other foods WITH cheese? Even put cottage cheese on fresh strawberries...
If she gets hungry enough, she'll eat it.
As long as she's not losing weight though, I woulnd't worry. Also check with your pediatrician. If you're worried about her vitamin intake, give her a childrens vitamin...they taste like candy anyway. If you want her to have fruit...get some all fruit popcicles (Edy's makes some tasty ones).

Offer it and eat it yourself...kids learn by example. She will eventually want to try new things...children at that age are testing the waters and showing their will power more and more so if you try to force it, she will probably not want to try it but, if she sees you nibbling on the new foods she will show interest in it. slowly switch foods or do something like this...mix two foods that go good together...so that she will recognize the taste of other foods... then slowly add a little more...in the end she will end up eating whatever you mixed her food with just by itself...then go back to the original food(which ever one she likes better) and mix something with that...iits like a cycle

IF YOU FEED HER CHOCOLATE THEN STOP DOING SO AND TRY HER WITH OTHER FOODS BEFORE YOU CONTINUE TO GIVE HER CHOCOLATE AS CHOCOLATE IS ADDICTIVE AND YOUR BABY IS TO YOUNG TO REALISE THAT SHE NEEDS OTHER FOOD FOR NUTRITIONAL PURPOSES.

mix cheese with everything else you want her to eat. eat the food you want her to eat right in front of her. poor mother! keep trying. act enthusiastic!

My older son was the same. He ate chicken nuggets and chicken hot dogs! I finally got him to eat a bigger variety by giving him only tiny bits of each choice. Ex: one little piece of chicken, two peas and two pieces of corn. I would tell him and yes even at 18 months he understood, that he wasnt getting any more of the things he liked until he ate what was there. I made sure it was a very tiny amount so that it wasnt a difficult task. Often a child has to eat something several times for them to develop a taste for it.

The other thing that really helped was to not serve him a meal at all. I would sit on the couch to eat and let him eat from my plate. Everything was so much more interesting when it was my food and not his. Hope this helps NO MORE CHEESE until she starts eating like a big girl...trust me, she'll eat when she's hungry...
