Any advice for a parent of a young child with seizure disorder?

My son has had seizures Since he was born. Any advice on how to cope? He is 2 now, still has them occasionally

Answers:
I am assuming that you are taking him to a neurologist. If not get a good one at a large hospital. They can provide you with several ways to cope with your situation. there are support groups on line and in your community most likely (if you live in the city). Just ask the next time you go. Medication can help with seizure control. I have a seizure disorder that's been under control for 5 years now from meds. E-mail me if you'd like @ reese172003@yahoo.com

I honestly believe though that family is your best support right now. Without them you're in for long nights.

I suggest you speak with your pediatrician! There are several support groups out there. There is also a ton of information available to you. Don't hesitate to ASK.

it may be best to talk to your doctor about where you can get help and advice, take time to educate yourself with his illness so you are able to educate others, ask your doctor if there are any medications avalible that can help controll seizures i hear there are many drugs given to epileptics to controll there seizures maybe it would work for your son to. i am a borderline epileptic, had them when i was a baby then doctors though i grew out of it till i was about 10 or 11 when the hit worse than when i was a baby, after all the tests they said that it is a scar on the left side of my brain that effects my right. the scar was caused when my mother gave birth and the doctor popped the water sack but i was already in the birth canal and when he popped the water, it made the canal crush my head enough to leave a scar.... on the other hand i had a cousin that had a VERY rare tumor in his brain that caused him to have seizures he made it to be 19 when they finally took a chance to remove it all off his brain knowing that he has a 50 50 chance of surviving, he made it through the surgery, had a chance to be normal, but the nurse put the feeding tube in wrong when he was in recovery and his insides filled with the feeding tube, and he died that way....it's all a matter of what doctor you go to to decide what the problem is that causes your baby to have seizures!
