Is there some psychology that would explain how a 2-3yr old wants to watch the same movie/video over and over?

Answers:
When you are 2 or 3, almost everything in the world is new to you. Familiarity is *comforting*. Sometimes, when you are stressed, don't you go back to foods that your mother or father prepared? Or reread a book that is somehow meaningful to you? Toddlers have the same needs!

yes
Our four year old has watched the same episodes of "American Dragon" over and over. I'm sick of seeing the same ones! She knows that she's seen it over and over but she just likes to watch it. In this case I think it's because she's into the language and the action. Transversely, she refuses to watch the same episode of "Miffy" twice.

I think this is a phase that is common in young children and will fade away with time...

Having said that, we've all heard of these "Star Wars" nutters who just love to tell you how they've seen the movie 99 times!
its called being two or three.
Children love repetition,its normal!
No,but it keeps the kids quiet,I hope you have more than 1 tvs.
No, its just that maybe that certain movie makes them comfortable, like a blankey. They understand it to a point and feel most happiest when watching it. Whats the difference between that and us listening to a song thousands of times over??
I think it would help their memory. I'm 42 and I still watch the same movie again and again if I like it.
Repetition is comforting to young children. Knowing what will happen next in the movie helps them to feel some form of control over their lives and helps them feel comforted that the world is predictable.
Repetition helps them understand. For example, the first time you read Shakespeare you may not understand it, but if you study it or are exposed to it more than once, you might catch on.
i think a child that likes ashow, or movie over and over. is cause there happy and at peace so rewatching them makes them happier
Actually i once wrote a paper on this. Children of a young age have a very poor memory for things like plot. Even children as old as six sometimes have a hard time remembering much of the specific plot of a cartoon or movie. They may remember certain scenes "Oh it was cool when they shot that guy!" but won't recall the entire thing.

On those same lines, children often have a very poor memory for specifics that we as adults take for granted. I'm sure you've noticed this.

Usually the kids like the characters they see in the shows like spongebob or winnie the pooh because they are easy to remember and are warm and friendly and full of bright colors. Kids like winnie the pooh because he is very easy to pick out of a crowd due to his consistancy of dress and style.

Kids respond well to consistency and sometimes poorly to change, watching the same story a million times makes them feel safe, and lets them re-experience a feeling they enjoy.
Yes, at that age they are figuring out sequence. To them it is all about them remembering what goes next. And when they do remember what goes next then they are proud. They also like to make sure that it doesn't change from time to time in watching it. It is annoying for adults but good for the childs development.
Yes ,
Depending upon the movie as to weather ..... something is amiss thou .
But don't worry too much . IF it is a Negative type move and it may well be , thus your question ..... counter it with a different movie ....take charge !! It is NOT your Job to be your kids friend no matter what all the dumb books say . Your a Parent ..... so be one !!!! Get the Kid 's head out of the box and outside into The world and true fun ...not watching it on TV !!!

Children at that age do this, usually because they are intelligent and need Stimuli. I will attempt to look for some literature, to give you an understanding.
I'm not sure if there is, but as annoying as it is, I try not to discourage it. Repetition is a good for their development.
This is normal child activity It will drive you crazy but look at the bright side the child is occupied
Because your child finds it entertaining, comforting, and enjoyable. Do you listen to certain music over and over again? Think about how you feel when you hear a certain song or type of music? Your child feels those same things but at his/her own age level. It will change soon, and be another movie/video. My son went through a phase where all he watched were dog videos/movies.
repetition is how they learn ...their vocabulary grows each time they watch a movie LISTEN to them and take time and read too>>> www.freewebs.com/letsread/
