My son is almost 2 and I still can't understand him.?

My son had his four front teeth on top removed when he was about 10 months because of his acid reflux. Could that be part of the problem?

Answers:
My daughter didn't start talking until she was two. She would say basic things like, milk, mommy, cup, and small stuff. We were really worried and were going to take her to a specialist. Then out of the blue she just bloomed overnight. She started talking in short sentences, she was counting, identifying shapes and colors, it was amazing. I think a big part of her delay was the lack of social interaction with children her own age, she was never in day care. She is three now, and I have no problem communicating with her. We spend alot of time reading books, watching and playing with Dora and Blue, and playing games together. Of course some words sound alot alike, so I have her repeat herself until I can understand what she is saying. Just don't give up and see a professional if you have to. Good luck!

you need to ask your doctor.

I don't know if that could be the reason, but I do know that people had trouble understanding me until after I was 3 years old. I grew out of it and did not have any speech problems--it just took me a little longer than some to get there.

A lot of 2 year olds don't speak clearly. My neighbors son is 2 1/2 and I can't understand a thing he says. You may want to have your doctor check his ears. Children who get a lot of ear aches have trouble speaking clearly because they can't hear as well. My son had to get tubes in his ears when he was 4 and they tested his hearing before the surgery and he had some hearing loss because of the ear infections, but after the tubes were put in his hearing went back up to normal. If he does have some kind of delay, speech therapy can work wonders. Here in Minnesota, a therapist will come to your house during the school year to work with your speech-impaired toddler. And they try technique after technique until they get the little ones speaking.

Is he enrolled in a licensed Childcare Facility? If so you may ask the director about Health and Developmental Screenings that your local Health Dept. may offer, we do this at the center I work twice a year and start when the children are infants to recognize any early developmental delays. IF he is not in a center call your health dept or doctor and ask for a referral. Good luck and god Bless just don't give up or get frustrated with him.

It could be the problem,I don't know. I have a 3 year old, and I had a problem understanding him, but now I can. All I did was when he started to say something I asked him to repeat it but say it slowly. It will take sometime, but it's worth it. It worked for me, and maybe it will work for you. It's worth the try.

My son is 4 almost 5 until just a few months ago we couldn't understand him he started preschool this year and sees a speech pathologist she is like our miracle worker he still isn't completely clear but better he needs a speech pathologist and they are provided by public preschools if the child is thought to have a speech problem good luck
