My soon to be 3yr old won't go to bed! help!!?
Answers:
Consistancy is almost always the answer to parenting toddlers. If you always put him to bed at the same time with the same routine, and keep insisting that he sleep in his own bed, he will settle into the normality of it. He only says he "hates" his room because he probably just discovered the word and it's meaning...does he hate certain clothes, or daycare, or particular foods too? Hate is a four letter word in our house, and we don't allow it to describe anything! I wouldn't bother carrying him back to his room, rather make him find his own way back. It sounds like your 3 year old may be the boss of your house, which is never good for anybody, but happens sometimes because parents are so busy these days and don't want to spend time disciplining and saying "no" when they have time to spend with their children. Saying no will not do any permanent damage to your son and will enable you to sleep through the night and give the little guy a sense of pride and accomplishment when he finally settles into the routine that you have set for him. PS...you may have to "lock him out of your room", not literally of course, you want him to feel safe, but if he cannot get into your room he'll either go back to bed on his own or cry himself to sleep OUTSIDE of your room...i'm sure after a couple of nights, he will prefer his own bed.
Other Answers:
have him change his room. (color, furniture, stuff) maybe if he wants it, he'll stay there.
Get a soothing cd and lay down with them, don't talk to them or say anything. Just go to sleep and they will soon drift off too. maybe he is scared. put a light there at night.
That is actually quite common. I have 3 children 6 months, 3 and 6. I can easily get the 6 mo old and the 6 year old to bed than my 3 year old. I talked to the pediatrician about it. He told me to cut down on the sugar about mid day and to get her up as early as possible in the morning so that she would be tired at the end of the day and would sleep thru the night. Once she sleeps thru the night for about a week in her own bed and room she would get used to it and would not come to our room in the middle of the night. We have tried this for about two weeks and so far the DR was right. Peaceful nights sleep for daddy and mommy.
Ask him why he "hates" his room and if he doesn't have a reason that you can help him fix then keep putting him back in his room over and over until he gets tired of losing the game. You have to be persistent and tell him that it is time for bed and he needs to stay in his room. You have to show him who is in control, which should be you not him. Good luck!Source(s):

He Loves You I Got Bulldogs That Act Exactly The Same,Its All New To Him,Maybe Keep Him Up Later When You Can,And Help Him Like His Room,He Hates His Room Because You Are Not There Remember He Is Not Going To Be Little Long,Have Patience,There Will Come A Day When You Will Wish You Could Snuggle Up With Him,Take Turns With Husband Sleeping In The Room With Him,Arrange A Little Brother Or Sister,Have A Cousin Or Friend Over my three year old has had similar issues and we were unsure of how to get him to sleep in his own room. shortly after moving from a crib to a 'big boy bed' he was constantly sleeping in our room. in desperation, we went to the store and let him pick out sheets, pillow cases, and a new night light for his room. we also picked out a nightlight for the bathroom (since we have potty trained and want him to get up at night on his own if possible). well, the new sheets and pillowcases as well as the nightlight in his room have helped to keep him in his room and make the room more exciting for him. although he still wakes me up when he has to go potty at night - he at least returns to his own bed which is a HUGE bonus!! good luck! hopefully you will be able to make your bed your own and enable him to stay in his.
