HOw do you wean an attached 16 month old toddler.?

Answers:
Do you mean weaning from nursing? If this is the case, you can start eliminating some of the feedings that he/she is less interested in during the day and of course provide a bottle instead. Wean the 2 most important feedings last (usually the first and last of the day). I just weaned our 14 month old son over the past few weeks. It's tough, but you can do it. Be sure to talk to your pediatrician first and offer whole milk when you make the switch.

Bring him to family members and go out for a bit, but not long, so he learns you will eventually come back

Start spending time away from the child a bit. Introduce the child to playmates or activities that dont require you to be right there holding the child. You will probably experience some crying fits when you do this, but hang in there and it will be over soon. Can you take him to mother's day out? Enrolling him/her in a child care setting will help also. They will be able to interact with children their age.

if you mean he is still breast feeding tell him no. if he's a "momma's boy" try a play group. bring him to mommy and me groups.

From the nipple, right? Just stop. Give him a bottle. Don't give in. 2 days max.

I know how you feel, I have a 13 month old daughter that will literally scream with anyone else but me. You can try leaving him/her with a family member for a few hours at least once or twice a week (that's what I'm doing with mine) or involve him/her in a play group where you baby can be with other kids. Think about why he loves nursing. It is cuddly and intimate and safe. Make bottle-feeding the same way. Lots of cuddling and affection. You can do it!

I too stopped nursing my daughter right around 16 months. There really is no easy way, you just have to cut out 1 feeding at a time. If you're in a hurry you can cut one every couple of days (that's how I did it) I wouldn't suggest going to a bottle that would just be one more thing to wean him off of soon. Go with a sippy cup that has a soft plastic spoust (almost like nipple material) they will wear out kinda fast but once you get him used to only having cups you can use a more durable spout. ANyway that is what worked for me. And I had her compleatly weaned in about a week!

You must prevent him from having a feed on your breast during the day if possible, give him a bottle as often as you can to get him used to it, and try to only feed him on the breast if he is tired for example at bed time and then gradually reduce how often you put him on the breast and introduce the bottle as a more consistent approach.
