make him watch that Steven King movie 'it'
let him be afraid of clowns...they're crippy...I'm 24 and still scared of clowns...they freak me out Is there something that says that we have to get over every fear that we have? I am 25 and I have always been afraid of clowns. They are REALLY creepy! Who smiles all the time anyway?!
My two oldest are also afraid of clowns. Do not push them on him first of all. Clown fears are very normal.
Also what seemed to help us is pretending we were clowns and putting make up on us so they can see that clowns are just people with make up on. When they get to wear and apply the make up it is not so scary.
Any place you might go where there are clowns just be supportive and not pushy.
I really believe it is something he will outgrow in time.
You can't really help him get over it. he's a child and they don't know and don't care about all that. just that he/she's afraid of the weird looking non-person. don't worry too much about it, he/she'll get over it when they are ready. my daughter when she was little was afraid of chuckecheese. she's fine now, it comes with age. don't worry. if possible try to convince him with a clown dress ur self.
Clowns can be frightening. Please do not let your son watch "It". My son developed a fear of clowns after watching that movie. I agree with one of the other responders. Do we have to get over our fears. How many grown ups are out there that are still afraid of heights? When he comes across a clown, you should first calm him down and just walk the other way. If he never gets over his fear this a very good way of handling the situation as an adult, without being totally embarrassed.
i wouldn't be pushy about it...i've known lots of people with clown fears.however, if it was my son, i would probably ask him if he wanted to play dress up! then we could paint our faces like clowns and he would see that clowns are people with make-up on! sometimes, kids can't see the correlation. they just see this freakish face of bright colors...not a person.
if he starts to get upset, though, get rid of the paint and deal with the fact that he doesn't like clowns and probably never will.
take care and good luck!
I have a 3 year old daughter had same problem we watched the bozo show and I kept her way from scary clowns till she was over her fear ... Take her to a few show and let her talk to them but hold her and give her comfert so she know you're there....... i have a son that is 3 and afraid of clowns ... this is why my son is afraid of them.. "they have that big red nose and a painted face.: my son has told me this many times.. i tend to say away from clowns due to this reason.. im sure it will get over sometime.. but if your son is a fraid then let him..
honey some people have alot of fears my brother is a marine and 28 yrs old and he wont take his kids to the circus because he hates clowns,I dont know if I can say that he will ever get over that.My son hates flowers that on flip flops and wont touch them.Just whenever you see one just say ohh nice clown and that might work cuz a child knows that their mom wont let anything hurt them .
