how does the chid pray go now i lay me down to sleep i pray the lord my so to keep is that right?

Answers:
I've never known a child to be scared by the 'if I should die before I wake' one. That's the one I use, that's the one that was used with all the kids growing up in my family. In fact, to me it was comforting. I knew about death, knew too well because I lost so many members in the family growing up, so it was comforting to ask the Lord to take my soul if I did die.

To flaca... yes, that's true, the bible says that. But this prayer is designed for very young children to introduce them to prayer, to teach them a basic format for later when they're old enough to pray on their own. We always did this prayer first then did 'real' prayers, so they get the idea. After about age five or six, then this prayer isn't necessary anymore. It's like training wheels for prayers!

Other Answers:
Now I lay me down to sleep, I pray the Lord My soul to keep. If I should die before I wake, I pray the Lord my soul to take.

the person with the pic of the but in the air is 100% correct ~~ there are 2 versions that we learned as kids

now i lay me down to sleep i pray the lord my soul to keep if i should die before i wake i pray the lord my soul to take
--

now i lay me down to sleep i pray the lord my soul to keep angels guide me through the night and wake me with the morning light ~~

see the answer above. I like this version (death scares kids right before bed) so instead we say, "Now I lay me down to sleep, I pray the Lord my soul to keep and to guard me while I sleep tonight and wake me with the morning light - Amen"

There are so many variations on this prayer - I had no idea!!

i have a 4 yr old and i taught her this way due to not teaching her about just yet .....
NOW I LAY ME DOWN TO SLEEP I PRAY THE LORD MY SOUL TO KEEP THE ANGELS WATCH ME THROUGH THE NIGHT TILL I WAKE IN THE MORNING LIGHT..

Now i lay me down to sleep I pray the lord my soul to keep if I die before I wake I pray the lord my soul to take AMEN I was gonna say the same as the ones above me.

The one I am teaching my 2 year old is

"Now I lay me down to sleep
I pray the Lord my soul to keep.
The Angels watch me through the night
and Keep me in their blessed sight. AMEN"

I like it because it is positive and doesn't scare them to death.

It all sounds pretty repetitive... we were taught to pray from our hearts... I thinks it's somewhere in the bible that repetitive prayer is a sin because it shouws lack of individualism to have to memorize a prayer instead of praying because we want to... I want my son to pray to God based on what he feels and not what thousands of other people were taught to "memorize"... I think God would appreciate some genuine honesty... When I was little I was taught:

"Now I lay me down to sleep
I pray the Lord my soul to keep
If I should die before I wake
I pray the lord my soul to take.
Amen"

I remember laying awake thinking about dieing in my sleep.

The one I taught my children is:

"Now I lay me down to sleep
I pray the Lord my soul to keep
The angels watch me through the night
And keep me in their blessed sight.
Amen"
