1 year olds birthday carnival?
How do I go about throwing a fun carnival for a one year old- and about 25 adults, and about 9 kids excluding her.
It is in our backyard. I am having hot dogs, burgers, cheese sticks and fruit trays, fruit juice and milk (for babies bottles).
Any tips on activites, anything like that? Or can I plan this like a regular backyard BBQ, btu beside presents?
Thanks!
Answers: My sister had a huge backyard birthday party for her daughter when the girl turned 1 y.o.--the kid is presently 22 and doesn't have ANY memory of the party (my sis spent abundantly of time and money on the party) so whatever you do, don't spend too much money or time hoping to make it attractive. Have foods easy that kids like to drink, expect a lot of dropped foods, keep the shindig to just a couple of hours max since little kids are going to get tired out and will involve their naps. Don't let parents in recent times drop off their kids--require that at least one full-size be there for the child so you won't have to provide daycare services. Hotdogs, burgers, chips & carrot-celery-cucumber-radish sticks, seasonal fresh fruit (watermelon?), cake & rime cream, those little juiceboxes (keep the amount of sugar intaken down to the cake so the kids don't go bouncing off the walls). That's plenty to munch through since the kids will probably be too wound up to sit still to eat. If you know older kids will be coming, you can sway a pinata and have the older kids whack it (with the little kids held final out of danger but released when the pinata is broken). Don't try to plan much since 1 y.o. are still very much free spirits and haven't bookish to follow game instructions yet. Have some little bottles of soap bubbles. If it's hot around your place, ask the kids to bring swimwear and set up sprinklers for them to run through (make sure the grass under it is clean and free of debris) (you might enjoy to provide towels or deal with "who's towel is this?" later). The little kids will tire out summarily so don't plan a prolonged party, but some older folks may dawdle around long after (if you want them to go home, just start asking them to abet pick up the trash and help with verbs up--that usually helps indicate to malingers that the party's over). Plan how to handle diaper change and bathroom use for guests (make sure to put anything valuable and/or breakable safely away, close (and lock?) doors of rooms you'd a bit not have anyone wandering into. And make sure you soak up the party.
That's what we did for my daughter's 1st birthday. It was merely a social BBQ for family and friends...which was in reality quite overwhelming for her. One thing I could suggest is have a little wadding pool for the kids to sit in if the weather is melt enough...just variety sure parents know to pack a swim suit. Or the other thing you could do is get a wadding pool and flood it with balls (my daughter loved ball at that age!)...you can even get the kits at toys r us for close to $20.00. 1 year olds don't really understand birthdays and aren't yet competent to appreciate a theme of a party. My daughter is in a minute turning 2 and we are going all out butterflies (she has even help make decorations) and she is so excited (won't stop talking roughly it and we still have 3 weeks! lol) Best of luck. The back patio bbq with presents sounds like a devout idea, dont go too over the top this year, your daughter wont remember it anyway so this afternoon is mostly for you, a celabration of making it through the first year without pulling your hair out. For your 1 year hoary, does she like water? I don`t know you could get a sprinkler set up so she can crawl through it. thar would be fun for the older kids, and possibly even some adults too :)
