My son is 2 yrs old and he's stopped eating his vegetables how do get him to eat everything we eat?
Answers:
We just used the classic - if you don't finish your main course - you don't get your pudding.
It's amazing how motivating that can be.
Even just a simple "you need to eat one spoonful of your veg and tehn you can have your pudding" is a step in the right direction.
Similarly, if they refuse to eat dinner - we just put it in the fridge for later and when they get hungry we offer it again.
Don't worry about them starving - they won't! And it's more important that they learn this now before it becomes a habit. Remember they are only two - and given a choice any two year old would just choose to eat all the sweet things in the world! That's why they need parents to do teh right thing. A great book is "The baby whisperer for toddlers" by Tracy Hogg. Sets out good ways of setting ground rules. Yes, tehy could be some things that they genuinely don't like, but we have a rule in our household that they always have to try a bit anyway as tasate buds change (and boyhave they - our eldest used to hate pineapple and now loves it!)
With regards to constipation - the best medicine we have used is "Lactulose" - absolutely fabulous.
Don't give up - we've all been there - it's normal for little ones to try and get their own way - you're doing teh right thing by seeking help!

Have a contest to see who can eat the most trees (broccoli), etc. Make it fun to eat veggies and don't buy any more junk for him to eat. He can't have ice cream unless you provide it, he's two........you say he loves choc and ice cream, YOU ARE THE ONE GIVING HIM THE STUFF......its not like he pops down to circle k for a candy bar. BE THE PARENT.
my child is a copy then.stop all sweets.if he does not eat them then u just grate it ads put small amts in all that he eats.if he does not listen then tell him that if he does not eat the veges then tell him that he will not get anything to eat.he will auto. start eating
Just tell him why he should eat that in kid's language.
Like telling him, if you wanna grow up like your father, you must finish them all...
Eating vegetables will make you handsome or anything...
First off stop the junk food. Have you tried different methods? Like raw instead of cooked? Or say, grate carrots and put in spaghetti sauce (no taste difference), or use V-8 juice in soups, stews, meatloaf, etc...
Does he eat fruit? Oatmeal? There are ways around picky eaters (I raised one - he lived and I kept my sanity!).
Feel free to e-mail me for more if you like... :) Good luck!
Realistically, you aren't going to get him to eat everything. Children are just like adults...they have likes and dislikes. However, a good example goes a long way with kids. If mom and dad are eating veggies and fruit and are positive about it, kids tend to want to follow along. Find things that your child will eat and make them readily available. Fruit juice is a good way to help with constipation and also provides nutrients..just make sure it's 100% fruit juice...not fruit juice cocktail. Providing a variety of fruits and vegetables will let kids find things they like. If you son likes just carrots, potatoes and corn for instance...start there. As he gets older, he will be more willing to try new things. Giving your child a daily multivitamin is a good idea any time. If all else fails, consult your pediatrician.
A 2 year old is too young to be *any* eating ice cream or chocolate! You can't keep "junk food" from him forever, but why introduce it so early? A little bit of cake several times a year won't hurt him, but stay away from the really junky junk for as long as possible.
Does he eat fruits? If so, give him more of them to make up for the lack of vegetables. The nutritional value of fruits and vegetables is very similar, except for the higher levels of natural sugars in fruit. Another way to help with the constipation problem is to avoid all white grains. Use whole wheat flour, brown rice, and whole oatmeal instead of the processed grains.
You can also start to give him more vegetables. There are 2 proven methods to use with a 2 year old. The first is trickery. Add vegetables to foods he already likes. If he enjoys pizza and spaghetti, add a bit of finely grated carrot to the sauce. Find other favorite foods and add mashed or grated vegetables.
The other method is to make yourself a serving of one of your favorite vegetables that you want him to eat. Sit down to eat, but be sure to tell him that it is all yours and he can't have any. When he asks for some, give in reluctantly. Point out that you only made one serving, and you really didn't want to share. Then give him a little and tell him the rest is yours. But eat slowly and let him have a little more for seconds. Don't overdo it on one day, though! :)
try smoothies. You can stick anything in there he wont know there are vegies in it and they tast good.
Pizza.
carrot cake
try having him eat them with dip.
If nothing works give him a swat and tell him to eat his vegies and have him sit there till he does.
Try having a vegie party says my 5yr old. Have ballons and animals and friends all eating vegies and only serve vegies and carrot cake for desert. Make it fun and he will eat them again. because all kids love parties.
You probably won't get him to eat EVERYTHING that you eat, but he does need to eat some veggies. My son's pediatrician said that if they eat fruit, but are not so good with the veggies, that they will be alright until they are a bit older.
If he is constipated it is a sign of poor nutrition. You need to enforce some tough love and lay off the junk food. It should be a RARE occasion for a two year old to get ice cream and chocolate. If you or the rest of your family are eating the junk food, you need to eat it when he is not around. Eat desert after he is in bed. HE does not need it. If you eat better in front of him, and don't offer him anymore choices when his meal is set in front of him, he might buckle down. If he won't eat, it won't hurt him for a meal now and then. Just leave the plate where he can get to it and say, "Well, this is wheat I fixed for dinner. You can eat it if you are hungry,"
In the meantime...there is a juice drink out called V8 Fusion. There are several really good flavors and they claim that you get a full serving of fruits and veggies in a glass. The juice has carrot, tomato, and beet juice along with some fruit juices, but it tastes so good that you'd never know. Try it! My two year old son loves it. It will hopefully make your son regular. Good luck!
Quit giving him options, have an all steamed vegtable meal.
Also I gave my kids a lot of fruit, they'll usually eat it,
I even use a dehydrater to make "chips" out of apples and bananas. Also I always recommend a kids multi vitamin to keep some of those nutritional gaps filled in.
