My 2 year old stool is black? Should I take him to the hospital? Any information would help please?

Answers:
I wouldn't worry about it. Different foods can turn their stool many interesting colors. My son has black stools after he eats blueberries, black berries and a few other things. The really fun one was when my son had a bright red stool and for about 15 seconds I was freaking out examining it trying to figure out what was wrong with him. Then it hit me... his birthday cake was a BRIGHT red firetruck with lots of red dye - mystery solved.

I would only worry if they continued for an extended period of time to be black.

what!?
You could call his doctors office or the hospital and ask them what they think.
get him checked out by his doctor, TODAY!!! if you can, bring a sample(the dirty diaper) with you
yes, quickly because that might be blood in his stools.
CALL EM FIRST THEN IF THEY SAY TO BRING THE 2 YR OLD IN THEN BY ALL MEANS YES
Its probably something he ate but I would take him to the doctors just to make sure. I hope he is ok (I am sure he will be). Good luck.

You have to learn to google. I can't keep doing it for you.

Good luck with your son.
Well, I have always heard that if the stool is black than there is blood in it. Call your doctor definately!
It could be something he ate, medication. I wouldn't be too alarmed unless it continues or he is having a hard time, has the poops for an extended period of time etc.
No to the dr's office is ok for a check up but what r you feeding your child? try to give him pedialyte and water as much as possible to flush his systems and make sure you are feeding him healthy foods... NO JUNK FOOD OR FAST FOODS!!!
Black stool can be a sign of bleeding in the stomach or intestine. Also, it occurs when someone eats spinach. Be safe and call his pediatrician.
When children are young, there stool can be different colours and varies at the young age, but do consult a doctor, also think about what he has eaten etc
yes. better safe tahn sry:)
Black, can mean a lot of things. Diet that can cause black stools are IRON and blackberries. Bleeding in the stomach can cause black stools.

Check if he swallowed Iron tablets. Check if he has tummy aches.

If in doubt, save the diaper and bring it to the hospital. They will test the stool for blood in it.

Call Your Doctor Right Away If Your Baby Has: Your baby may show only a few of these signs when sick.
Fever over 38.5 ° C or 101.3 ° F
Diarrhea frequent, watery, liquid stools within a short period (6-8 hours of time); may be green and foul-smelling
Vomited all or most of his feedings (emptying the stomach, not spitting up)
Signs of dehydration loss of tears or saliva, sunken eyes, decreased wet diapers, sunken fontanels (soft spots)
Excess crying or irritability
beyond your baby's usual fussiness
Difficulty waking up or is lethargic
less active than usual
Change in breathing pattern or persistent cough
Refused more than one feeding

If the stool is solid, you should be okay. If you're truly worried, call a physician first.

Hope baby is well. Good luck.

Definitely call 1-800-ask-a-nurse or what ever the number is in your area. Stools do change color all the time, ranging from Green to brown to black, depending on the waste from what you've eaten that day. You should call before you take him in, incase he ate a black ink pen or something. But don't be alarmed until you talk to them, he's still alive.
Stool can be many different colors. Foods can make your stools black, brown, yellow, green, and golden.

If it is dark black and looks like tar then yes see a doc. Or if it looks like black coffee grounds...thats not good.

If you are still not sure wait for the next poo. Check it out.
This is something to be concerned about... But the question is... have you given him any petobismal recently (this could cause it to turn black) or beats. If not and its a tar-like black substance then defiantly get him checked out. Dark black blood represents a problem in the gastrol section like a stomach infection an ulcer or cancer. Red blood represents intestent problems such as hemmoroids a tear in the intestant or an infection. It can't hurt anything to get it checked out. Just remain calm and call a doctor.
could be what he ate high iron will do that. call the dr no need 2 rush him in unless dr tells ya 2.
has he ate any crayons lately or something with black dye in it? dirt? some cereals will do that if they have a lot of dye also.
Black stools mean there is a possibility of blood in the stool. I would call the doc and see what he suggests you do before going through the expense of a emergency room visit. Is he in pain? What are his other symptoms? The doctor will want to know. Don't be too worried about this, just see what your doctor suggests you should do.
Is he taking iron vitamins? If so, is normal or he may eat something dark like chocolate. As long is not white he should be fine. But do not hesitate if you see something wrong with his health.

I'm a mother with 3 kids.
Pediatric recommendation.
stop sitting here and messing around and get that kid to the doctors.. although i think you will find they will say it it probably too much iron
Return the stool to the furniture store.
His diet is probably to blame. Nothing wrong with a little black poo. If it were blood, it would be streaked. My daughter had blood in her stools once after being constipated. It was way obvious. If he seems fine otherwise, let it be.
