Well it really depends.Do you have any other children?IF so and they are older your 23 mth old should talk good enough for you to understand. They should be able to determine yes and no my 28mth old speeks whole sentences, but she has two older sisters the older ones teach the lil ones. Are there certine words he/she isnt saying that you think they should be?
if you've been working with your child, by then he/she should pretty much be talking...most 2-yr-olds nowadays can talk whole sentences...they're kinda slurry sometimes, but they can talk whole sentences...
you should be working with your child on talking, numbers and colors...
there is no real answer to your question and I'm sure that
you have been told this kids develop at their own pace.
My son didn't even hardly speak until 3 and I had older children. So in good time he'll be talkin so much you'd wish
he wasn't. Albert Einstein didn't even mumble a word untill
he was 3 and he was a genius
hello, my 2 1/2 year old son was really slow with talking too he started a lot of sign language and i went to a hearing test with him and a speech therapist and they say he ok , he has 2 older sibling so he should be quiet good but u know i think he is just a bit lasy he is catching up a bit more, the therapist told me to speak a lot with him , when he wants something to say to him what ever it is (like if he wants an apple say *oh u want an APPLE here is your APPLE ) and not to keep coorecting him, he is starting to catch up so i think u dont have to worry they will learn sooner or later but going for an hearing test wont hurt him and u would have reasurance
good luck nancy
I believe the standard is about 50 words but don't go by that. My daughter's speech was delayed but she was always babbling about something! I grew concerned and had Early Intervention evaluate her (EI is a free service provided by your state or county for children under 3)A special ed teacher and speech pathologist come to your home and basically play with your child and observe how they interact with their surroundings and the toys given to them by these people. They will ask questions about your child's development from birth to present. The report came back reccomending no further action. My daughter's cognitive skills were just fine and was advised that the speech will come..and it did!!
