How long do you think a baby should be on formula; when do you switch entirely to regular milk?

I know milk is obviously much cheaper, but the formula seems to give a lot of nutrients and vitamins that milk might not have..

Answers:
Everyone here is right. At 1, you should switch. But not abruptly! It is true, it will upset the digestion. Start at an ouce of regular milk with the formula for a week. So like, for the first week, 7 ounces of formula and one ounce of milk(8 ounces) mixed together. Second week, 6ounces of formula and 2 ounces of milk. And so on and so on. And then you will just have them on regular milk. And make sure to keep them on healthy meals with all the nutrients and vitamins. If not, pediasure is great. Best of luck to you.

Not until their first birthday.

According to the American Academy of Pediatrics
a baby should only stay on formula for at least the first year baby's digestive system can not handle milk products so stick to the formula til at least age 1.
Yes. One year.
Formula until age 1, whole milk until age 3, then 1% or skim milk for then on. Skim milk is best in preventing heart disease. (in relation to whole milk)
you should not start them on regular milk until they are at least 1 year old, they need the nutrients from formula up until that time.
AT THEIR 1ST B-DAY, SWITCH TO WHOLE MILK, THEN AT 2 SWITCH TO 2% MILK.

you're right, just do what your instincts tell you...

they also make formulas for up to 2 years old, and then there's pediasure...you can check some of these things out...
ANY TIME AFTER FIRST B-DAY, WE FINISHED UP WHAT WE HAD THEN SWITCHED TO WHOLE MILK..
I started weening my kids off of formula at about 10 months by giving them a little bit of milk at a time about 2 times a day and increase if they like it if not then just keep trying 2 times a day, mine took it really well they didn't mind the milk in fact I think they liked it better.
You can start with one cup or bottle of regular milk now to see if your baby is not allergic to lactose. That's what I did with my 3 kids by doctors recommendation and it work.
one year
1 year old is the limit for formula. If your child eats regular healthy meals with the rest of the family then he/she does not need the extra vitamins supplied in the baby formula, he/she get plenty from their meals. Regular milk is good for his/her bone growth.
most pediatrician recommend switching to whole milk on/around their first birthday.
well from experience i put my kids on homo milk around 9 months of age. but i also fed them alot of foods too. i made sure that they eat alot of cheese and yogurt. alot of dairy. also i always had fruit and fish and other meats that help them get the right nutrients. my baby now is 16 months and has been on homo milk for atleast 10 months and shes good with it. like i said before just give the right foods to enure shes getting the proper diet. also they have toddler pedisure. it has all the right vitiams and nutrients that they need to grow-up strong and healthy. feed her foods and give them pedisure
Your baby should remain on formula until their first birthday. If you try giving them milk before then they could have problems with their digestive system, also your baby needs the high amounts of iron that formula contains. If you try taking them off formula early they will need an iron supplement (it's available in liquid form with a dropper) or they run the risk of becoming anemic. If you want your baby to remain on formula after their first birthday they have special formulas for children one and older. The best thing to do would be to discuss this with your pediatrician. Congrats on babies 1st birthday!
I swiched both my kids over to milk at age 1 but its ok for them to take formula still, and yes it is better for them. I started giving my son pediasure it is good for them and it taste like flavored milk so he likes it alot. It is expensive though so i just give it to him once in a while. Also you can ask your doctor to give you some liquid vitamins i add them to juice and they never know the differents because they taste terrible alone.

I would worry about the high calorie content of the formula and what else your baby is eating... if he is getting a good, varied diet of solid foods and eating well, then continuing with formula might be too much for him.
Not at all,caw milk after 1 is the best for your child and child will eat much better usual meal.
